Not cheap if you compare what you get to what you pay for
3/5

The price you pay for this unit v. the quality is kind of disappointing. It took me quite a while to receive It was fortunate that I have a mechanical bent and the tools to accomplish the task. As soon as I opened this package I noticed the metal plate the controller slides through was upside down. I had my brake controller on the table, so I took out my brake controller and examined the package. I am all that, but i broke down and looked at the directions as a weak moment set in. It turns out the directions are a waste of time. As my initial theory was proven incorrect, I took a picture and posted it on a tundra forum. Everyone on the forum confirmed the metal plate was upside down as well. I tried to slide my Prodigy P2 controller in after flipping the plate 180 degrees so that it was right side up, but it would not a few curse words, I went and re-read When you examine it, you discover that the plastic in the mounting area is not correctly trimmed. Now it's time to remove the metal plate once more. The plastic that was in the way was still in the way, so I put the metal mount plate on it upside down to see if the plastic got in the way. I get out the dremel and trim about an eighth-inch of the right hand so that the brake controller will fit. Then I will get to the next point. The brake controller is mounted on the panel using screws. For the controller to be securely fastened in place, the directions state to use the provided metal mount bracket with screws. I have a problem with my brake controller's metal mount bracket not having been included with it. The controller only came with a plastic housing that fitted into the hole and clipped it in. Thanks to a couple small 90° brackets I had around the house, I was able to make the modification. Fortunately, I will need to take a trip to the hardware store first to get some washers.

It's not necessary for people to complain
5/5

It is an issue that people are complaining about. It worked perfectly for me. The instructions mention it's a tight fit, so you may scrape the controller trying to shove it in there. It's likely that you will need to push a small tab at the top of the P3 down until it slides the rest of the way in so that the screws can be accessed on the back. Actually, it is exactly like the original to fit the dash. It looks as if it was taken from It does not have an open slot for the P3, but does have a shaped slot that is specific to the P3. It does what it says it will. We need instructions to get things done. In its place, it explains the procedure for attaching the trim piece and the P3 into it well enough. Additional words are not necessary. I would say the only disadvantage is that it didn't have a brake controller due to the OEM trim piece having a slot to hold an extra connector that was on the wiring harness that my Tundra did not use. A trim piece was not present on this piece. I like the product, however, and am not dissatisfied.

Compared to the trailer brake included with my , this was a great replacement
4/5

As a replacement for the trailer brake that came with my 2017 Toyota Tundra, this is a good product. My trailer brake (which didn't work very well) was not reliable and I didn't want to take a chance on it. In other words, I bought this for the brake controller of the P3. In my opinion, there was a drawback to this controller you could not screw the screws into the holes Although P3 stayed securely in place, it was tight enough so that it couldn't fall out.

Installs without any problems on a 2015 Toyota My favorite element of this product is the fact that it allowed me to install my Prodigy 3 without digging into my dashboard
5/5

Also, there is no need to hide the controller or I think the price was worth the price, even if it seemed pricey. My method of removing the old one was just to pop it out with a flat head screwdriver. In order to install my Prodigy I slid it through the front, connected the wire harness, plugged it into the dash, then installed it. As well, I was able to move the switches from the old panel to this one with no problems.

Still a lot of improvement to be made
4/5

It is great to use and looks great. A star was taken off because it is so expensive and because the brake controller slides into the mount, which makes it difficult to use. Still a lot to be done. In order to get it installed, I shouldn't have to scratch up my brake control for $80.

A version of Tundra 2014 has been released
4/5

It was difficult to install the P3 controller, as a metal file had to be used to give clearance for it. By the left kick panel of the 2014 Tundra, I found the White connector plug.

I like the look of it
5/5

With my Tekonsha P2, I mounted it on a 2015 tundra and it fits and looks Due to my already owning the P2 controller, this was a more cost-effective solution than buying the Toyota control unit. The bottom line is that it works and looks like it came from a.

It kinda appeals to me
3/5

This item was high on my list of expectations. As a new P3 owner, I bought this along with a brand new controller thinking "great, I won't bump my knees with this. ". However, the slot doesn't exactly fit the contours of the controller, and the instructions are a bit unclear. If there was a link to a "How to Install" video, that would be very helpful for those who are not mechanically inclined. The idea is great, but there's still work to be done.
