Questions & Answers

How much space is required on the top and sides for a 2 1/2" ball mount?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but my F250 comes equipped with a 2" receiver hitch and a ball mount. The system will have plenty of room.

Could someone tell me what the ideal gap between the road and the bottom of the mud flap should be? Mine has slowed down. ?

I'd say three. With the trailer hooked up, 4 inches on level ground. Take an inch off at a time; mine is about 4" off the ground with the trailer attached. It's possible that the price is a little too high. 3" would have been ideal for mine, but I removed too much.

Is there a 2 1/2" to 2" adapter available so that I only have to buy one?

Yes, we do provide a service known as the "center hub." For the two", look for RT034 and RT057. 1/2" receivers use RT059, while 3" receivers use RT060.

I've lost the two screws that hold the Rock Tamers to the hitch; where can I get them replaced?

These screws are made specifically for the Rock Tamers hub and can be purchased separately - ASIN B01KY6O77Q for part number RT052. A single screw, RT052, has been used.

They've started to tear after 3,500 miles
3/5

It was disappointing. We purchased a brand new travel trailer and drove from Kansas to Yellowstone National Park. The trip was 3,500 miles roundtrip, with the majority of the miles being on highways. I had the Rocktamers set to the middle length, which was exactly in line with the outside of my tire; the next notch out was about 4" further, which I thought was excessive. The flap should extend 2" beyond the edge of the tires, according to the Rocktamers instructions, which mine did not. The flaps have started to tear in the corners despite not sticking out as far (and catching as much wind) as they should. Take a look at the photo I've attached. br>br>These flaps have only seen one use (albeit a significant one), and they are now failing. I was hoping for a long-term solution because I thought these would also be good for protecting our boats. br>br>Two stars instead of one because the rest of the movie is fantastic. sturdy.

There is no way to get replacements for this product, which is a shame
3/5

I bought these and let them sit for a month before using them. They appeared to work well on the first trip. After a five-day road trip, I noticed a tear in one of the flaps. I've been looking for a way to get it replaced but haven't been successful. I can't return it because Amazon won't let me, and I can't find the manufacturer's contact information online to contact them directly. These flaps should last more than one trip, in my opinion. The frame is of excellent craftsmanship. Obviously, not the mudslide! Now I appear to be stuck with a product that isn't working. Hopefully, I'll be able to solve this problem.

The failure of the Rock Tamers
5/5

Overall, this is a fantastic product. However, if you own a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, you're in luck. DO NOT BUY THIS IF THE EXHAUST PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED FIRST. br>br>I contacted Rock Tamers customer service because I was concerned about the distance. This truck's exhaust pipe and the RT mud flap According to what I've heard, as long as you have at least 8 inches of clearance, you should be fine. br>br>This is not the case. I had a range of 8 1/4 to 9 inches. To the mud flap, there is a 75-inch clearance (angle-cut pipe stock). I assumed I was in good shape. I couldn't believe it when I looked at the mud flap after driving home from the campground (2 hours) and saw blistering on the exhaust side and warping on the trailer side. br>br>I sent an email to Rock Tamers explaining the situation and including photos. There has been no reply. I sent another email, surprised at how unconcerned they were. I received an email stating that they were very busy but would contact me later that day. The next day, I received a standard form email recommending that the placement arms be moved and/or that a heat shield be used. They told me who made the heat shield and who made it. br>br>What's more, there's no mention of the warranty being voided if this heat shield is used, as I was told during the initial phone call. So there you have it. However, because there was damage and no offer to replace the damaged item, I don't believe they have any kind of warranty. br>br>I honestly believe that if the exhaust isn't blowing directly on the flap, this could be a fantastic product, but it's being sold by a company that doesn't care about customer service. br>br>2017 Silverado 2500 Gas, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! br>br>2018 Silverado 2500 Gas, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! br>br>Recent changes: br>br> The new mud flap was funded by the Rock Tamers. A heat shield, I believe, was also included. Once you get past the form letters, this is a very understanding company. br>br>I adore these items!.

I've never bought a better towing accessory
5/5

I've never bought a better towing accessory. To protect my fifth wheel, I installed these behind my 2017 Ram 3500. I had to cut them down by two inches so that I could use them with the truck at a different ride height. When the truck is loaded and leveled, they will be about 2 inches above the road. They sit lower than the rear park sensors and are only two inches from the back bumper, so I leave them mounted all the time. When making sharp turns, my truck, which is a longbed dually, is still six inches clear of my Montana 5th wheel. In the three months that I've had these, I've towed 3500 miles with my fifth wheel. I've had to scrape and wash a lot of debris off the front of these flaps, but the 5th wheel's front remains dent and chip-free.

Information that is critical: It connects to the receiver hitch MOUNT, not the HITCH! It's a functional system
4/5

Thank goodness for Amazon; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to justify such an outrageous price. To be clear, this attaches to your ball mount or hitch mount, not to the actual receiver. When ordering Rock Tamers, keep this in mind: there are two sizes of receivers for light duty trucks: large and small. Only because of the price/value did I give it four stars.

On the very first trip, I damaged my truck! **Update** I have to say, Rock Tamers is a great group of people
5/5

They admitted they had a bad batch of flaps due to the date code, and they fixed my truck and sent out new ones. I loved them so much that I immediately gave mine to a friend who was leaving, and he promptly ordered another set, which I accepted. I would strongly suggest it. br>br>I'm furious with this product for the damage it caused to my truck. The flap was flipping around so badly on one trip from Phoenix to LA that it actually hit the bumper with the "weight" screws on the bumper and gouged the heck out of the painted bumper. It was flapping so badly that the inside corner of the flap is beginning to tear, and it's quite thick. I followed all of the instructions and even watched a video on how to adjust them so they wouldn't flake while driving. Because this truck only has 5000 miles on it, the bumper will need to be repainted. BUY THIS ITEM AT YOUR OWN RISK!.

Customer service is (NOT) up to par! This item has the potential to be outstanding
3/5

I installed them, and the right one began to fall apart within the first 400 miles of our journey; I purchased and installed the heat shield, and made sure there was at least 8 inches of clearance from the exhaust pipe tip, as required by the manufacturer. Another large chunk had fallen off by the time we reached the end of our journey. The temperatures were consistently below 40 degrees throughout our trip; I can't imagine what they would have been like in the summer. According to one review, getting Rock Tamers to respond was difficult at first, but they did eventually. I'm having the same issue as you. I contacted them on February 26th (nearly a month ago) and have yet to hear back. I contacted them again today, and I figured I'd share the news on Amazon as well. I've since modified my exhaust and would simply like a new mud flap sent to me. I recommend skipping the heat shield and modifying your exhaust pipe instead.
