Over the years, I've struggled to remove my 5th wheel hitch from my truck on my own. It's a pain to use block and tackles with straps or chains around the hitch. Let us fast forward to the present time. In the shop, I set up an electric hoist with a hook that hooks onto the lifting bracket. It's incredible! I'm 65 years old, and I'm not going to wreck my back to get the hitch out any longer.
You're suffering from a back problem. This and a hoist were used to lift a 200 pound 5th wheel hitch out of my truck and onto a roll around cart, allowing the truck bed to be used for other purposes while the hitch was serviced and stored out of the elements until the next trip.
In the winter, I remove my fifth wheel from my truck. This, combined with a 1 ton chain fall, ensures a safe and simple job! br>br>Hanging the 5th wheel from this for an extended period of time is not recommended. I drag it over to a cart and place it there.
It is effective. It's not very sturdy, but it gets the job done. I might try some of the other, less expensive ones for the money. I'm sure they'd work as well.
My fifth wheel hitch is removed from my truck bed using a chain hoist. This product attaches similarly to the pin on my trailer, making lifting with my chain hoist extremely safe and secure.
This is what I use with my engine hoist to get the hitch in and out of my Ram 2500. I've got a Demco Autoslide, and it's a beast. The only issue I have is that my hoist hits the back of the truck, forcing me to manhandle the hitch to get it back to where it can reach, which is not due to the product's fault.
This is a sturdily built lift pin. My Demco hitch snapped right into place. You won't need any lifting straps or chains.
Picked up a Demco 5th wheel automatic slider that weighed more than 300 pounds. It was an excellent solution. It appears to be of high quality.
