You can learn how to do it if you go to the Anderson Manufacturer website. It works well for me and is simple to implement. It's perfect for my 35-foot boat. The fifth and final wheel. It's ideal if you want to use your gooseneck hitch for other trailers (as I do) but don't want to use your truck's standard large 5th wheel hitch. This entire setup is fantastic, lightweight, and simple to install and remove, allowing you to use your truck's bed to its full potential on a daily basis.
With a 2015 Shortbed Ram, I've been using this hitch for three years and have always had enough clearance to back my fifth wheel into any campground we've visited. We've visited over 20 different campsites in the last three years. My bed is also covered by a truexdo trucksport tonneau cover, which has no clearance issues.

Attention: This is an important article that you should read. br>br>I was in an accident recently while towing my fifth wheel trailer, which was connected to my Andersen hitch. The mishap occurred in the state of California. I was cut off during the accident and rear-ended the vehicle at a speed of approximately 10 miles per hour. "That's how slow it is. As a result, I was only able to get my truck close enough to drag the trailer off the side of the freeway before having to call for a tow. As a result of the hitch failure, I discovered that my truck's rear end had been moderately damaged. br>br>I understand hitches can only take so much punishment, but a 10 mph rear-end collision shouldn't have resulted in this. About two years ago, I purchased this hitch. Until I didn't like it, that is. My RV is a 40-foot fifth wheel with a GVWR of just over 16,000 pounds. The hitch is rated at 24,000 pounds, according to the manufacturer. IT'S NOT. I was driving on the interstate and the traffic was heavy, so I was only going about 40 miles per hour when I had to come to a complete stop. When I did, I heard a loud bang and felt a jolt, as if someone had slammed into me. When I get off the road, I discover that the ANDERSON HITCH has failed. br>After this, I calculated the weight of my trailer, which was 13,202 pounds with cargo. It took several phone calls for me to get in touch with Anderson. The hitch could fail if you make a sudden stop, they told me. They only gave me a $525 check. When I paid more than 700, I got a discount of 00. 00br>I consider myself extremely fortunate that neither my truck nor I were injured. I hope that people read this review and realize that this product, in my opinion, is not safe. Remember, they claim this hitch can carry 24,000 pounds, but I was only 13,202 pounds, less than half of what they claim.

I'm driving a truck with a short bed, and I'm using it! Pulls smoothly, quietly, and makes a nearly 90-degree turn! I'd just completed about 500 miles with it, and nothing had loosened up after I double-checked the tightness. For the return trip, all of the bolts were torqued to the specified torque and did not need to be tightened. The truck is a 16' Ram 2500 Megacab, with a Jayco Eagle HT trailer. The front cap isn't overly scalloped, so there's plenty of room for turning.
On the way down the highway, this product failed. At all costs, stay away. Prior to each trip, I inspected the hitch for damage or cracks and found none. My family might have died as a result of this.
Before purchasing the Andersen Hitch, I conducted extensive research. This is a badass hitch, to say the least. A 2017 Ram 3500 crew cab with a short box is what I have. There are no flaws in this hitch. With this configuration, I have plenty of turning radius. I didn't want the slider fifth wheel hitches that are required to tow a fifth wheel by short box trucks. In addition, there are no rails left in the truck when I remove this, which takes 2 minutes. Because it is only 35 pounds, it can be put in and taken out by anyone. Let's talk about the ball for a moment. It is directional, as I discovered. The factory drilled the hole through the hitch and the ball shaft in such a way that it can only go in one direction. If the pin does not line up, simply turn the ball 180 degrees and the pin will fall into place. I would highly recommend this to anyone who does not require a heavy, cumbersome fifth wheel hitch at an exorbitant price.
You will be glad you did when you get one. I wish I had known about this hitch before I spent my money on a SuperGlide hitch that froze and bent the front of my RV's hitch, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. This hitch has everything going for it. There will be no more loud noises that make you think your hitch has broken and your fifth wheel is about to fall off. It's a lot more convenient to hook up - It's a lot easier to put a trailer on a ball than it is to yank on levers and hope everything is in the right place to lock in. Anyone who owns a bumper pull trailer knows that if they get too close, the trailer will fall on, and you'll never know if it's on or not. (You can see it perfectly to hook up if you pull out your rear seat center headrest while backing up. ) This setup is much stronger, and if that wasn't enough, it's incredibly simple to remove. I'm a big guy, but getting a 250 pound fifth wheel hitch out of your truck (the superglide or even a smaller, lighter Curt one I had) is a nightmare. I didn't take it out very often because it was so much work, which is why you see people with 5th wheel hitches leaving them in their trucks all the time; it's as if you've lost your truck because you have this huge hitch in there all the time taking up all your space. This thing only has three bolts and a pin, and it weighs nothing (35 lbs, made of aluminum, but tested to hold 50,000 lbs - It's a good design in terms of physics). It could be taken out by a petite woman. I can take it out in about a minute. It does require a gooseneck hitch, but that hitch setup is far more durable than those universal 5th wheel hitches that drill holes into the thin sheet metal bed for support. I installed my gooseneck hitch myself, and everything is bolted securely to the frame, not the thin sheet metal bed. I'm overjoyed to finally have this set up. I flip my gooseneck ball over and regain full use of my bed. You'll be glad you did when you get this setup.
