This trailer fits like a glove and handles a small utility trailer just fine
5/5

Having installed the third Curt 12170 hitch on the Mazda X-4, it proves to be a great hitch #3 was a 2019 AWD. #1 was a 2016 FWD #2 was a 2018 AWD #1 was a 2019 FWD. I am writing this since Amazon does not show this fitting on its 2019 CX-page This hitch will work fine with a 5x5, too. When this hitch mounts in the area where it connects, there is no significant difference between an AWD and a FWD. It works equally well for both models. Instructions for installing are clear, and are written by someone with experience in installing software. If they advise you to tape the four spacer washers to the inside of the hitch rails before installing it, take them up on their advice. In spite of the fact that I did two of the three hitch installs single-handedly I had a spare person assist me in support of the hitch as I started the bolts, so it was much easier to do it myself. There are already holes in the frame rails of the vehicle where the hitch's holes line up. My largest challenge to the installation was separating the four rubber mounts from the muffler, which proved much more challenging than manhandling the weight of the hitch. The rubber mounts must remain attached to the vehicle (don't remove them all the way). Please follow the advice in the installation instructions. In the event you take the hitch off all the way, it is challenging to get it back on the vehicle. For the wiring, I bought and installed the Tekonsha 118746 trailer harness. I have been able to install the wiring harness more quickly than I could install a hitch. In terms of service, I have had no problems with my 2016 hitch during the two years I have had it. It goes without saying that neither a CX-4 can run on four cylinders The class II hitch pictured here and the 5 are not designed to pull an Airstream 30'. In addition, that duo has pulled just fine a small utility trailer (such as Typically, the tongue weight of my trailers is no more than 100 pounds, and the overall trailer weight is between 600 pounds and 800 pounds. As the receiver box is the only visible item when not in use, it is the only Behind the rear bumper, the rest of the assembly is tucked way up. My experience has been that it has not present any clearance problems when backing up over planters in a parking lot, or ascending The color I bought and installed has made me quite satisfied (after all, I bought and installed three colors).

It is harder to install Curt CX than it was in the past There are five models, but they are durable and of high quality
5/5

It was disappointing to find that installing it was much more difficult than installing the one I purchased from Curt seven years ago for my 2014 CX-250 This year, I'm a 5 (I have a 2020). There is a possibility that the design of the car itself changed, and this is what caused the increased difficulty. This is why I didn't dock a star.

On the previous one I had, you didn't need a lift or a pro to install it, since it didn't need to be lowered. Moreover, it is extremely heavy, which makes me think that even if two people were lifting it into place, it would be one of those "quick, quick, my arms get tired!" situations. There are situations where this is appropriate. It's a double-edged sword, though, in the sense that it also signifies that it is a very durable and sturdy Even so, it seems unnecessary for a class 2 hitch, and I wonder if it is heavy enough to materially affect the MPG of the car (even a fraction of a MPG over the life of the car is significant). The product overall seems great - though if you do install it yourself, make sure that there is enough clearance under it while you work on it (someone suggested backing over a curb to do so). You don't need to be worried if you're having a professional do it for you. Also, you can borrow a big torque wrench from a chain auto store, once you put down a deposit that you get back when you return it. If you want the torque to be high enough, don't skimp.

The instructions could be improved, but the product is good quality and installation is easy
4/5

I have since installed trailer hitches on nearly every vehicle I have owned, and I trust Curt Manufacturing to deliver high quality hitches at a reasonable price. I am not disappointed with this hitch

As I have come to expect, you are a very high quality product. I've never installed one of these hitches, so it must have been written by someone who hasn't installed one. I was totally busted when I saw "Installation time 40 minutes" on The opposite is true. Two days is a good estimate In fairness, Mazda is mostly at fault for the delay, and not Curt For the hitch to be installed, the muffler must be lowered. That is not an easy task Most homeowners do not have a lift in their garage, so it would probably be easier if the car were higher up. We have to crawl all over the garage floor to get things done. In the instructions, it is Curt who is at fault for the illustrations When the black and white images are so tiny and grainy, it's hard to make out what exactly they are talking about Normally, white photos are used. The illustrations would have been much more impressive if they were drawn in line. Fortunately, wiring a trailer hitch is something you only have to do once to a car, so in the grand scheme of things, it isn't as important that they underestimated the amount of time it would take.

Designed to fit 2018 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring vehicles
5/5

There are no tools required to install this hitch since Curt supplies every component you need. According to a video I watched, a wire held the bolt in place as it passed through the frame in the installation. This comes with the package of nuts and bolts. It's amazing how beautiful it looks! There is a clear instruction on your page. I would, however, youtube a video on a 2017 Mazda CX5. I was pleased with this product. The only thing I would have liked was that it came with a housing that would allow you to plug in a trailer light. Whenever I need to hook up the wires, I will not have to pull them out of the trunk.
