The bumper is quite tough, as stated above. I got it
Looks nice
I got it
The bumper looks good. I tried a Harbor Freight step drill that wasn't lubricated. A new group will be set up As you can see, it's already installed
the access holes have been made with a die grinder
it's a great product, but it was a major pain to install
i did need the shims also! It ended up being a step drill in a DeWalt impact driver that I used. I found it to be very useful.
I was able to tow a trailer behind my 2004 Mustang safely. A couple of hours are needed for installation.
A hole was drilled in the rear bumper after the bumper was removed. The drill bits you need are expensive. I had a professional do it and it took a lot longer than what the amateur estimate was (I don't recall if he used the high-end A hitch like this costs way too much to work on.
It is foolish to estimate the installation time for a "novice" (60 minutes). Just trying to get through step 1 consumed 60 minutes of my time. In the end, I realized that unless you have access to professional grade tools, such as the "Carbide Drill Bits" (also known as Diamond Tipped Drill bits which cost upwards of $65 per bit), you'll waste your time trying to install this hitch. It is best to buy your hitch from a supplier that will also install it for you.
In the end, I found this is the best hitch option for my Mustang after all the research and trial and error I did. In light of your research, you will find that this body Mustang can be fitted with only two hitches. In the United States there is curt and in Mexico there is cequent. In addition, if you order the hitch through uhaul, Cequent will stamp a sticker with the uhaul logo. In reality they are all the exact same thing, and the brand names are just a way to fool consumers into thinking they are buying a quality brand name that used to be good in the past. Interestingly, they go so far as to have separate web pages for these brands which no longer exist. I had my heart set on the usa made hitch, but Curt told me it does not fit this GT model with dual exhausts, so I ended up ordering the cequent hitch thinking I hadn't any other option. There was a very poor quality of the goods that they sent me. Moreover, the tube for the draw bar was welded on incorrectly. I am puzzled by how someone can weld two flat pieces of metal together in an unnatural way! When I tried to mount it in order to begin drilling the two bumper holes, I found it to be too low by at least 3/4 inches, which is as though it was a mile. Then I decided I'd never use it, so I It turned out that other people had the same exact fitment issue. A replacement was sent out quickly by Cequent, and at first it looked as if it might be as good as the original, but it was far less satisfactory. At this point, I was finished, because the tube had once again been welded on crookedly, and to make matters worse, it had been welded on only ONE side. Since the only other alternative was a curt, I decided to make a test run and see if it worked. In terms of design, they look nearly identical, and I measured them side by side and found that there was no However, the curt was not welded crookedly and the finish on the powder coating was far superior to the welds. The curt fit perfectly against the bumper when I installed it! The hitch cleared my 4" magnaflow tailpipes exactly the same as the other one. It could be that there is a difference in your hanger size with stock tailpipes. I understand what people are saying about the installation from other reviews, it's certainly not a half-hour job for a DIYer. This is not the fault of curt, the cequent hitch has the exact same installation because of the design of the car. Even so, I will mention that both curt and cequent provided fish wires for the bumper bolts. If you don't use a fish wire, you may have to drill 1 inch holes to run the bolts in. I used one hole that was suited to my needs, but one had to be modified to deal with the shade tree. The holesaw is still needed ahead of time, and check your bumper first to see if it has holes. Again, hitch brands are not to blame for this problem. I spent about two hours in the driveway with some air tools and swearing before I decided not to buy It will depend on how you use it. In order to use this drill bit you must use 7/16. Make sure you lubricate the tip of the drill with some oil in order to prevent it from burning. In case you are not comfortable doing this kind of thing, I recommend you hire someone to do it for you, so you won't have to spend time doing it yourself.
