Questions & Answers
This attaches directly to a vehicle's bumper.
I'm not sure; it depends on whether or not the mounting holes are compatible.
I installed it on an '08 Tacoma, but I'm not sure if the bumpers on the '15 models have changed.

This was used to attach a vertical bar to my truck so that I could lift the Kayak into the air. Everything went smoothly. The Curt is of the same high quality as the rest of my Curt items. There are no complaints about the quality! br>br>I used it in the following way:
- On my Chevy 2500HD truck, I have a ranch-style Frontier front bumper and brush guard.
- By drilling holes through the diamond plate deck and using grab bolts (U-bolts), I was able to mount the Curt hitch vertically behind the brush guard. The hitch is drawn down to the deck/bumper using shaped bolts. This was perfect for keeping it vertical. br>br>A "hitch extender" could be mounted vertically. This is a hitch extender that normally mounts in a 2in box hitch and extends out behind the truck to carry long boards, etc. I put it in the Curt hitch place pointing straight up, then drilled a hole through the top bar of my brush guard through the hitch extender (pointing vertically), and put a bolt through the whole thing just to keep it in place. br>br>I was then able to mount my Kayak (with assistance) with one end on my headache rack and the other on the hitch extender that was vertically mounted. br>br>I tried out my kayak by carrying it around for a week. It was an excellent solution. No problems. br>Plan to use this to transport our kayaks in our Shasta Phoenix 5th Wheel RV when we travel.
Although the hitch was of high quality, the bolt pack was largely ineffective. I had to purchase cap screws because the shoulder length was too long. I wish bolt dimensions were given in their entirety. Even though I only paid 34 dollars, the price has since doubled to $74 the last time I checked? For the price, it's insane.
(ALMOST! When I tried to install this well-made hitch on my Nissan Titan, I ran into a few issues. br>Because the holes in the bumper didn't line up, drilling and grinding were required to allow the two main bolts to be inserted. To complete the four-bolt installation, two more holes would need to be drilled. br>Then I noticed that the factory bumper has a plastic bumper step pad that wouldn't fit over the bolts provided! br>The bumper isn't finished underneath the pad, and it wouldn't look good without it. The alternative would be to drill four large holes in the wall to allow the bolt heads to protrude, which would be hideous! br>The hitch appears to be of good quality, but the designers should test it out on a real truck! br>I've never seen a picture of one of these hitches in action, and now I know why. br>I'll be returning the hitch and replacing it with a frame-mounted hitch, as I should have done in the first place. The plastic bumper step pad installed on the Titan bumper can be seen in the attached photo.
On a 1985 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup, I installed this. Drilling was necessary because the holes did not line up properly. Bolts were far too long, necessitating the addition of several more spacers to get the factory bolts to work. It took more than an hour to complete an installation that should have taken only 15 minutes.
It's a great alternative to a pricey frame mount. Only the bumper limit restricts it. The back holes on my 2007 Silverado WT were too far back, but it fit my bumper. That was easily fixed by simply welding it to the bumper's underside.
This arrived in a shattered box with no bolts or other attachments, as shown in the picture. I'm afraid I'll have to return it. I'm hoping for a complete and undamaged package.
My application required some tweaking, but it's now up and running.
