Questions & Answers

Can I use this with my Prodigy P2 electric brake controller for trailer braking?

The short answer to Jon's question is yes. Depending on what kind of car you have and what wiring already exists, however, you can get it to work. The wiring for some vehicles is already run back to the rear via a connector under the dash. Luckily, you're one of the lucky ones since you can choose to buy the wiring adapter from Amazon for your vehicle and connect the Prodigy to the connector under the dash of your car. In the case that your tow rig does not come with one of these under the dash (as I did with my Saturn Vue), you will need to do the wiring by yourself and install the necessary cabling. Normally, line fuses or circuit breakers are used. As the wiring for the Hopkins' brakes will need to be run to the rear of the vehicle, you'll be running those wires there. Then you also need to identify what wires exist in the rear of the vehicle in order to determine how they need to be converted to work with During my Saturn Vue purchase, I was already told that the dealer would rig up a 4-way A two-way flat connector at the rear of the vehicle is used when towing a trailer There was only one thing I had to do connect this 4-wire It's flat all the way to the 4 Connect the brake controller wires and battery wires in Hopkins to the rest of the Hopkins wires, then I can connect the Hopkins to the back of the Hopkins drive motor. eTrailer dot com has instructions you can read at their website. Their videos detail the process of installing 63 different types of vehicles with the Prodigy. You may also want to look into their ETBC7 installation kit, based on Hopkins Multi-Stage Installation Kit An adapter for towing The article gives some nice wiring diagrams and suggestions for circuit breakers (all of which I purchased through Amazon for a much lower price). Here's what I hope will help you.

Is it possible to connect a 7-inch device to this adapter The 4-pin male plug (trailer) to the 3-pin female plug Do you know how to pin flat females (vehicles)?

This is true, but you will only be able to choose from four vehicles This device provides brake lights, turn signals, and tail lights (typically flat plugs). An adapter with four pins is supplied with the device 4 pin pigtail connector for use with a 4 port computer A 4-pin plug from the vehicle is connected to the trailer, which in turn is connected to a 4-pin plug I am using a five-pin plug and a seven-pin plug On the adapter you will find a pin connector. You can use this adapter with electric brakes on the trailer if it is equipped with electric brakes and if you have a brake control setup, but you will have to provide electrical power to and power cables for the brake circuit. In some vehicle models with factory towing packages, the brake wiring extends from inside the vehicle (under the dash) to the rear of the vehicle, but only provides a 4-way braking system At the hitch there is a 4-pin flat connector (brakes and tail lights). There are tow packages on some up trucks, but not sure what other makes do).

This product comes with a mounting bracket, right?

The one I received had the hardware to mount it as well as the bracket. Here's what I hope will help you.

In order to mount this item, what is the correct "no drill" bracket?

The 47185 comes with a bracket, but if there are no mounting holes already present, you might have to drill them to make it fit. It is not possible to get a no-drill bracket from us. Selected User Reviews For Hopkins 47185 Multi-Tow 4 Flat to 7 Blade and 4 Flat Adapter

installation, looks great, and I appreciate the flexibility of the two plugs
5/5

Worked like a charm. Because I upgraded from the factory 7 pin plug to a heavy duty hitch instead of the one that was too small, I had to change the plug and I lost the mounting bracket that was attached from the Apparently, someone else said that the mounting bracket was flimsy, but I am happy to say that I have not found that to be the case. We used some oversized self tapping 5/16 sheet metal screws to hold it down, and it works perfectly.

Install was easy. I used factory connectors and heat shrink tubing, then taped it all up to protect any exposed wiring. In the near future, I will update the wiring schematic for the second generation of In case others need the information, here is the description of the 02 rams. There is a possibility it is the same for other Dodges as well, but I am not sure.

Despite the fact that it works well, pay attention to As I had already installed the "4 flat" trailer wiring on my vehicle, I decided to upgrade my plug setup for the "7 round" plug because I will be purchasing a trailer with brakes soon
4/5

I purchased this adapter with the assumption that I could simply plug in my four flat plug into the connector here, and then all the "basic" functions of my brake lights, running lights, and turn signals would work with just the reverse lights, brakes, and power wires Unfortunately, once I had purchased the trailer, I discovered that it wasn't quite as straightforward as it seemed. When I did some more digging around I discovered my 4 flat had a ground, but for some reason the multy does not Each tow adapter had a separate ground that needed to be connected. The trailer arrived on short notice and I was able to rig this up on the fly to get it home. If you are interested in using it as a straight adapter for bringing a trailer home on short notice, keep that in mind. Overall this product is okay for the price. It is only time that will tell if it will stand the test of time.

It's a great tool that saves tons of space and is easy to use
5/5

Due to the four things I wanted to do, my installation was a little different than the usual hookup without brakes, 2) tow a trailer with brakes using a brake controller, 3) power a macerator pump for transferring black water, and 4) power a power lift to lift the minivan out of the rear. Due to this, I needed a bit heavier wire to connect to the minivan, however otherwise everything connected as it should. As described in the package, I mounted the plugs on the bumper rather than on the hitch - the only thing I changed was which way around the plugs were positioned. I made a mistake by connecting the angle bracket to the hitch, since the bracket has suffered some wear that it would not have sustained As I stated previously, the adapter package dealt well with my requirements 1) and 2). Purple pigment) as an auxiliary power source. Once I can spare the time, I will switch that to use the black wire (aux) which seems more suitable. For now, that Among the heaviest users of power, the power lift is by far the most common. Previously, I had installed the standard 4-foot extension cable An installation of this product is dependent on the installation of a wire small trailer package. My experience is that everything works perfectly.

I highly recommend this book
5/5

This is a priceless experience that's worth the investment. I am very impressed with this connector. The Hopkins 7 blade trailer connector I bought originally came from a tractor supply store close to my home. My total cost was $30 for the 7 blades alone. What better deal could you find than a 7 blade and 4 pin set for just $14? Each and every thing is of high This mount is very easy to install and comes with pre-drilled holes A total of two holes will need to be drilled. It was only the wiring that did not work for me, but I couldn't deduct a star because it will fit many different makes and models of There were only three wires that were color coded black, white, and blue on the 2005 Tacoma. By hooking up to a trailer and testing the brakes and blinkers to the corresponding wires, the remaining wires had to be exposed and matched. It only took me a few minutes to complete this task with a partner helping me. I highly recommend this product to any trailer user looking for a new connector for their trailer.

That kit is pretty cool
5/5

This was added to a Ford Explorer that was only equipped with a flat tire factory original The trailer wiring harness for four trailers. that I have the RV style 7-foot trailer, I will be able to transport a trailer If you are feeling nostalgic here are some old-school pins. Plug it in with four plugs. In the flat there is a The remaining four portions can be plugged into the existing flat-panel TV This way, there are no wires to cut, so there is no need to remove anything from the car. There is only one thing to wire in 12V auxiliary power and a battery backup It is recommended that you use up lights, but only if you require Due to the fact that a trailer is not designed to use either of those options, I just taped those wires up and left them in case I decide Mounting it is also a piece of cake since it comes with a mount bracket and screws. For the bracket to be mounted, only two holes needed to be drilled. It would definitely be a good idea to.

I used it to add a 7 pin connection to my 2008 computer
5/5

I used it to connect a 7 pin connector to a Ford Expedition that only came with a 4 pin cable. My brakes were electric when I bought it The wires are good, but the power line (black) is lacking. A large hole was drilled in the 4 pin connector holder and then I mounted this adapter using a nut and bolt. The wires behind the 7 pin connection touch the spare tire a bit, but I was able to attach everything without any issues. The trailer looks professional, and so far there have been no problems connecting/hauling it.
