Stars does need an isolated circuit so I cannot fault them for that. It does make it easier to plug into the existing lights, but the hard part is to follow the instructions to drill a hole in the car for a ground and run a power cord There is a disadvantage to this, however, since there is so much stuff moving and hot when the battery gets to it. You get a few zip ties to keep the wire in position as you pour it up, but that is nowhere near enough to make sure it stays there. Power wire has a bit of beef to it for durability, but tail light connector wire is as thin as possible and is probably where the first failure will start. Despite the limited paper instructions, there are plenty of videos on youtube. Of course, they specialize in the most annoying part of laying the wire to the battery first. My trailer has led lights, so I probably could have just bought a harness and saved 60 bucks and an hour.

I have been able to use it as I need for what I need. Although the instructions state to screw the control box into the behind the driver side tail light using a self tapping screw, the control box is not placed behind the tail lights. As much as I wanted to use it outside, I was concerned that the rain, heat, etc. would damage it. In my request I asked the company if there was any possibility that I could cut and reattach the two harnesses with solder and heat shrink tubing so that they could pass through the grommets that the light wires pass through and be reconnected to the controller. The wire harness warrantee was voided if any changes were made to the harness. Thus, for clarity, I am expected to attach a couple of other wires to the box with the included compression pliers that I may or may not have but if I want to solder and use heat shrink tubing on three smaller gauge wires, the warranty is void. Oh, well. It is a fact that I will never return if it fails.

As a whole, the kit was a good buy. However, we deducted a star for these I felt the primary wire should have been red. The primary wire was stiff and cheap. I did not like the cheap fuse holder. I felt that the butt connectors should have been waterproof. However, everything else in the kit worked as expected. It would have been more affordable if it had been cheaper, but I'm happy with the kit and the installation. You can watch youtube videos and get more zip ties if you get more zip ties. In addition to waterproof connectors, I would recommend using a rubber band.

Wire to battery was run from inside the vehicle thru hood latch and out through the battery blanket, hiding the fuse in the battery blanket, into jack compartment and run harness out through pre-drilled holes, and it worked perfectly! It took two guys three hours to install. It seems you would just have to tuck the wire harness under the bumper and leave it exposed to the elements when installing as instructed. The nut is an easy plug and play, and it needs no technical skill or 35 minutes of setup.

This is the second one I've installed on my wife's Our only use for her hitch is to pull the jetskis. After she backed into a parking spot somewhere, she hit the hitch on the bumper of the spot and mangled the wires together because I forgot to attach the plug to the trailer. In the end, I tried to install a new pigtail plug, but even though there were no shorts in it, it kept blowing fuses. When I discovered that, I knew something in the converter box was also shorted otherwise, I wouldn't have known. It was in use all summer, and I ran my trailer behind it once, whenever I put my trailer behind it, it always worked.

This product plugs in and works right away. It is easy to set up. There were some zip ties I had to use instead of the ones provided because they kept slipping. You may also want to help the battery wire go down through the engine compartment, then to the back of the vehicle rather than trying to feed them up through it. Having it that way is a little easier.

The installation process was obviously very straightforward, but that is where the simplicity ended and the difficulties began. According to the picture, the wiring is hooked up. That solved the problem. In my opinion, this item should never be suggested. This may take some time, but I am going to try to get my money back.

The first thing I noticed was that the package had no contents. There was no installation hardware included in the package. Contains screws, zip ties, connectors, roll of double-sided tape, fuse, dust cover for 4-way junction box This connector has a flat surface. The second problem is that you are forced to install the control module in the rear tail light on the drivers side because of the length of the cable. As a result, there is not enough cable length for the 4-foot cable All the way to the hitch, a flat connector is necessary. The end of it is about a foot to a foot and a half too short. Third, the male connector provided for the drivers side tail light does "click" or "lock" It connects computers. A connector of this size is not suitable for this application. So far I haven't gotten the chance to use it. I have not been happy so far with the unit.
