This was fantastic. To tow a trailer and mount a bike rack, I purchased a dual hitch extender. These were fantastic for keeping the hitch in place. Because the lower hitch spot was too close to the upper hitch spot, when my trailer slid in to get on the ball, the top lock pin collided with the bike rack and locked down before the hitch lowered onto the ball. The simple solution was to remove the top tow hitch tightener - yank the hitch yank the hitch yank the hitch Roll the ball forward into the 2" hitch receiver after putting it in the receiver. It took a bit of maneuvering, but the top tow was simple to release and re-attach. In that case, attach. Repeat the process at the campsite, removing it and replacing it a few days later, before returning home. Solid.
To get the U bolt to fit through the plate holes, I had to put it in a vise and squeeze it together. I suppose I could have drilled the hole larger, but the anodized plate prevents that. If you have a vise to squeeze the u bolt in or don't mind drilling the hole bigger, this method works great. It should have included a slotted hole to account for variations in u bolt batches.
I was extremely dissatisfied with this one, and we attempted to install it on the hitch yesterday only to discover that it is far too short to fit on a standard hitch. I finally used it, so I'm not sure I'll be able to get a refund. It's far too short to be useful. There isn't enough thread room for the plate, b=nits, and washers once it passes through the hitch. In my opinion, it's a complete waste of time and money!.
the difference in elevation between my hitch and 1. Because the 5 to 2 inch adapter is larger than the brace's lip, it does not make contact with the shaft and thus does not act as a brace. To get it to contact both shafts, I had to mount it upside down and backwards at an angle. They say not to do it that way because the bolts will go through at an angle. But, so far, it appears to be working fine. They work great on hitches that aren't too deep (2in to 2in).
These clamps are strong, simple to set up, and they work great. br>br>I have a lot of metalworking experience, and I was planning on making a couple of these myself, but I couldn't find the materials for less than the price of these, so they're a great deal.
I was a little concerned when I saw that the stabilizing plates were made of aluminum, but trust me when I say that this is a fantastic product. I already had one hitch stabilizer and was considering buying just one, but I figured it's always nice to have a spare, and it's a good thing too, because the cheap one that came with my hitch abruptly snapped.
This is a necessity, not a luxury, for this product. This is especially true if you're transporting a motorcycle on a motorcycle rack. This product is worth its weight in gold because it eliminates a lot of wobbling and looseness in the assembly that will only get worse over time. It does a fantastic job!.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for anti-rattling devices. I just wish the fit was a little tighter to help with horizontal sway. On a dual hit mount, I use it to secure a four-bike carrier and a bumper step.
