I couldn't remove the lock after just one winter living with my trailer under the cover of a camper. The lock rusted so far inside that the lock wouldn't come off. After spraying it with lubricant, I let it air dry. In the end, a propane torch was needed to fix the problem. I tried that, but it didn't Last but not least, I grabbed pliers and decided that I'd better break the key off inside anyway since I'm going to cut it off anyway. The locking pin was finally released by turning the lock enough and striking the lock with a hammer at the same time. Learning from this experience. the inside of the key lock with some kind of rust-resistant spray before use. There was a post that said water won't get in since the lock is down. It is my assumption that you are correct. The statement is false. In this state, mine still works technically, but the lock feels very rough when turning a key, and I hesitate to put the trailer back on for fear that it will be stuck even more.
I give this trailer two stars despite the fact that rusting itself onto it will keep thieves from stealing.
This is to go on our fifth wheel that is kept in a locked storage unit when it is not in use. I love it. It's very durable and works great. If anyone wanted to take it apart, it's possible, but it would more than likely take around 10 minutes. The cutoff wheel can be used for 30 minutes. like that they have attached a warning to the chain style lock to make sure you do not back into it, or in my case, hit your head on it (I have a lifted truck, so I had to install an extra 4 way hitch to tow the fifth wheel). A 5'' lift is attached to My overall opinion of this product is that it is clear, easy to use, and very safe. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to protect their property. I have had it installed for about five months, and the chain is slightly rusted, but I live in the south where humidity is very high a lot of the time. As you can see, the lock still looks as good as when it was first opened, and the yellow tag has also not worn out. I cannot see any signs of corrosion on it, and it still turns freely. Putting the key slot down ensures the key will not fall into the slot and they did a great job design this.
I found it to be a good lock, and the keys seemed to be of good quality they didn't They do have some rust on the inside, but it might be due to my king pin, so I won't blame them for that. My first draft of this review will be revised if the item rusts. As for any of you who have a PullRite Super Glide hitch plate on your king pin box, I can confirm that the lock does work when that hitch plate is.
It's great that this lock has a king pin, but I had to return it because my pin box already has a capture plate for the auto-encryption feature I use my hitch to slide things along. This king pin lock cannot be installed because the cap plate securing bolt interferes with it. The capture plate needs to be removed each and every time I use the lock, which is not practical. Although, it is very strong, it looks like it is built to last. Another nice feature is the bright yellow tag attached to the chain to inform me it is.
The lock is nice and secure, and I like how it acts as a deterrent from anyone thinking to casually hook up to our rig, but the thing has no anti-theft features. It's time to get out of the box when it comes to rust treatment. The first thing I did when I bought it was spray it with some clear rust-oleum Due to other reviews calling it out, I chose to include it. Although I have prepared the chain for rust, after only nine months the chain has slowly started to rust.
In addition to the lock I own, I also own one of these. As I opened it, I found that the locking mechanism was broken and In the end, I was able to solve the problem and reassemble it. There was no lock tite on the retaining screw, so it would have been beneficial if there was. As a result of reading some of the other comments, I will definitely be lubing it up to keep it from It is important to note the rating for the ease of use, ease of installation, and the strength of the lock depending on the delivery method. I would have given them all 5 stars if I had not had to assemble them.
There is no problem with the lock. Why do I love it so much? Well, a kingpin lock is certainly not what you'd call a romantic lock, is it? The lock is heavy, robust, and I doubt someone can just throw a hammer at it and get it open quickly, so it makes me feel better knowing that a thief can't just hitch up and steal the Despite being exposed to wet and dry weather for a few months, this lock is still working smoothly. Currently, the only thing that is rusting is the chain that holds the warning tag. In any case, I will take it off. This seems like the kind of invitation someone who is always up for a challenge would like. Apparently, the purpose of this hole is to warn people about to hitch their trailer that it has a lock on it, which is a little terrifying if someone backs into it since they can't see the collar in place. It's probably not a good idea for them to pull, but it's still kind of cool.
