Questions & Answers

What is the mechanism for locking and unlocking this?

Hello. This is a non-returnable item. a hitch pin that locks

Has it stood up to the test of time? Rust? Is it weakening and allowing it to come out on its own? Would you consider purchasing this item again? When did you get it, and how long has it been with you?

Mine has 1700 miles of towing on it after only 6 months of ownership. Still adore it; Spring is here, and it isn't going to be garbage in a year. There is currently no rust. br>I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

How heavy is it?

I'm not sure how much it weighs, but it's made of solid stainless steel. I've used it to tow a 6000-pound boat. From the boat, there are no crushed spots or stress fractures on it. As a result, I'd say it's rated for a large number of pounds.

Is it possible to make one in 1/2"? Diameter?

We do. The 1492DAT is the model number for this item. If you have any questions about this product or any other Master Lock product, please call Customer Service Support at 800-747-4747. 464- 2088

a necessity; It saves you time and aggravation! This pin is available in two sizes: 5/8" and 1/2"
5/5

The hitch lock mechanism is made of stainless steel, which is indestructible. smoothly. There are no parts to lose, and no gymnastics (trying to install a clip underneath a hitch or drawbar while bending your head to the ground) are required. After trying it, you'll never want to go back to the cheap ones! Those who are surprised that this Master Lock product does not lock for security will be disappointed. This pin helps you save time and effort. Anti-bacterial agents are added. Theft-prevention features would add complexity to the system, reducing the amount of time it takes to complete. Benefits are provided for free. You'll have to sacrifice some of this convenience if you want a true lock.

These are the best because they are made of solid stainless steel, which does not rust
5/5

These are the best because they are made of solid stainless steel, which does not rust. I've been using them near salt water for years with no signs of contamination, which is great because it never gets on your hands. br>br>However, the attached locking barrel is the true genius. It is permanently affixed to the pin after a simple one-handed operation. There's no way to lose it (unlike cotter pins), and there's no way for it to get snagged and pull out (as cotter pins do). Seriously, this is a case where the simplest solution is the most elegant. br>br>I never have to worry about it being stolen because I pull the ball and pin out of their bag in my toolbox as soon as I'm finished trailering. This is quick and easy because it's stainless steel and you won't rust it. br>br>Try it, and you'll never go back to using a regular cotter type hitch pin.

I like how the pivot lock is made of stainless steel
5/5

PROS: o It's made of stainless steel, so it won't rust. br> o The pivot lock is a clever way to prevent the pin from backing out while in use. br>br>CONS: br> None for mebr>br>I carelessly left my previous ball mount in my truck's receiver, and the hitch pin, ball mount, and receiver nearly fused together permanently. I spent a few days sawing off the old hitch pin, squirting WD 40 into every nook and cranny I could find, and hammering on the thing. I ended up cleaning it with vinegar (a trick I learned from the internet). and ***FINALLY*** succeeded in separating the pieces Because I had to saw off the old pin, I ordered one of these to replace it (which, ostensibly, should never rust). The pivot lock concept appeals to me, but only time will tell if the design and components are reliable. You can bet I'm not going to leave the ball mount in the receiver any longer!.

I've used the simplest hitch pin I've ever seen
5/5

I've experimented with a variety of hitch pin designs over the years. Various pins were used, ranging from locking pins to simple pins held in place by a clip. br>br>Without a doubt, this pin is the most basic I've ever seen! br>br>This pin's blue barrel head pulls out and then swivels to a 90-degree angle with the pin itself. This secures the pin in place and eliminates the possibility of it falling out. Pull the barrel head out and swivel it in line with the pin when you're ready to remove it. As a result, it will pull out straight. br>br>It's not only simple to use, but it's also very effective. It does, however, lock securely, and there are no additional parts that could be lost. br>br>If you're looking for a simple hitch pin without the locking feature, this is probably the best hitch pin you'll come across - also at a very reasonable price!.

Simple to operate; performs its function! This is the second one I have
5/5

So far, it hasn't disappointed me. Simple to work with. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> After responding to a question about how the hitch pin functions and locks, I added photos. I hope the images are of assistance.

The new retainer pin design appeals to me
5/5

It's a sturdy piece of metal that perfectly fits my 2018 Toyota 4Runner trailer hitch. I like the new retainer pin design, but I'm worried that the internal spring that keeps the blue portion locked in place will eventually fail. It's a shame they didn't use a turn/screw mechanism instead. I like it a lot in general. I just wish it came in a variety of colors other than red and blue.

Clever
5/5

This is a very clever device. It has a little spring-loaded pinholder instead of a clumsy wire clip to keep the pin in place. To lock the pin in place, the knob is loaded and rotates from straight out to 90 degrees offset. The knob will not get lost or vibrate loose, and it will take up far less space in the crowded area surrounding the hitch. The pin is made of stainless steel, and the knob is made of anodized aluminum, so it won't rust. The knob is available in blue or red, and it is more expensive than a standard hitch pin, but it will last a lifetime and looks better.

It's great for the price and ease of use, but it doesn't lock
5/5

I recently purchased a slide-in college mascot hitch for my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This pin fit snugly into the Jeep's and slide-in's pre-drilled holes. The colored end is spring-loaded, and it simply lifts up before folding over. We'll have to see how it holds up to the elements and exposure since it's only been on for four months. So far (5 months), everything seems to be going well.
