Questions & Answers
This pin is designed to connect trailers or other towable implements to lawn tractors or ATVs that have a flat, horizontal single hole hitch. It uses a spring clip retainer instead of the typical hitch pin.
I've been using it for about a year for a similar application to yours: I haul logs and split wood in a large cart with flotation tires pulled by an ATV over hilly woodland terrain at various speeds. The magnetic hitch pin has never popped out of my hitch, which is at a good height to keep the tongue level.
It measures three inches in diameter.
It's supposed to stay on the pin, but my did not. Because the magnet's purpose is to keep the pin in place, I simply leave it stuck to the hitch hole on my mower, and the pin remains secure.

With a powerful super magnet, it works well. The only issue I see is that the 3 inch long is approximately 1 inch too short for my 41 gallon tow behind sprayer. I'm working on a couple of other projects at the moment. As a result, it received a three-star rating from me. I'm curious as to why it isn't 4 inches long.
Because the "standard" hitch pins with cotter pins require the user to bend or kneel and reach under the hitch to pull or insert the cotter retaining pin out of the hitch pin, this method works much better. This is no longer an issue thanks to the John Deere magnetic design. Because I have a Craftsman Pro rather than a John Deere, I was hesitant to purchase it, but it fits perfectly and securely.
I expected it to be cheap and flimsy, and that it would pop out over even minor bumps - I was wrong. But it's a lot more than I anticipated. I've driven at 30 mph with my off-road trailer over extremely rutted trails, and the pin has stayed in place. The magnet is so powerful that it can be difficult to remove at times - This is a positive development. br>br>If you have a hitch pin-equipped cart and are tired of dealing with rusted cotter pins, this is the product for you. It's the most useful addition I've ever made to my trailers - ever.
I bought it after reading a lot of good reviews and getting feedback from Amazon customers when I asked if it could handle heavy loads. I'm very happy with my purchasebr>br> I have a lawn tractor with two different carts and a wagon that I pull, use, or drop off depending on the task. These transitions are made simple and quick with this device. It can also withstand a 200-pound load. I'm hauling 300-pound loads. This is especially surprising because one of my carts is an odd size, so I have to put this pin in upside down, from the bottom, where the weight/force is pushing against it, and it still holds.
When I first got it, I put it on my various trailers to make sure it would fit. It worked perfectly at first, but when I removed the pin on the third trailer, the magnet remained. It wasn't a big deal; based on the reviews I'd read, I was half expecting it. I removed the magnet from the trailer and glued it to the pin with Elmer's Probond Advanced glue. I applied a light coat of glue to the magnet as well. This type of magnet is quite delicate, and even a light touch can break it. I know what I'm talking about. The thin layer of glue helps to reduce the chances of this happening. BTW, because this glue dries clear, you won't be able to tell it's there. The magnet is now permanently attached to the pin. The only issue I'm having right now is how strong the magnet is. I am a frail old man of 71 years. It's difficult for me to get it out. I frequently use a hammer to tap the bottom of the hitch to aid in its removal. There should be no problems for people of average size and strength. I'm going to try it out this summer, and if everything goes well, I'll order more. This type of hitch is used by four of my vehicles.
It kept my loaded garden trailer attached to my tractor all day, across rough terrain, and I almost forgot it was just a magnet. I'm going to be stuck on it for the rest of my life;.
When I opened the package, I was pleasantly surprised to see how sturdy this pin appears to be. I got to try it out on a lawn roller the other day. I felt immediate satisfaction as soon as I heard and felt the magnet lock onto the draw bar. no need to bend down and fiddle with a keeper pin I thought the price was a little too high when I placed my order. However, now that I've seen it and used it, I'm glad I purchased it. Do yourself a favor and get one if you pull anything with your garden tractor.
I've used it to hitch a cart to a riding lawn mower on two occasions. It's super easy to put on and take off, which is great because I always keep my cart tucked away. My yard has a lot of rocks and roots, so it's quite bumpy. I've given it a thorough run at top speed. So far, everything has gone well.
