It was a little tricky to install, and mine broke the little tab during the process. It is possible that the one in the first place was fragile. It worked fine with the other one I bought from another vendor. You should first put in the bent tab in the hole on the fuel door, and then try to screw in the retaining tab in. It is not completely the same as the spare in a Td5 2002, but it does the job. Putting it in a Td5 2003 will have the same effect. In 2004, I guess it would work.

Is that kind of a solution to the issue with the fuel door not latching? In other words, it is just a design flaw from Land Rover that causes these things to fail, which is why they send you two at the same time, one will break upon installation or fail within a short period. It's a decent enough quality, but if it were made of steel, it would easily maintain its shape after repeated uses. To maintain optimal fuel door closure, replace it every oil change or every other oil change.

Replacement latches for this door fit flawlessly and cost 1/3 of the price of an OEM latch. The fact that there are always failures on the Discovery makes me wish for something better . Once installed correctly, it aligns perfectly and always locks and unlocks with the factory fuel door release button.
To replace the one I broke, I needed just what you suggested. Item fits perfectly and is of genuine quality.
