Questions & Answers

The diagram is shown below. It has a width of 56 inches that can be used as a rack. Why is it that everyone says it can go up to 48 inches? Is the measurement 48 or 56 inches?

The rack must be mounted to your wall studs, and the width must be a multiple of 16 at a standard stud spacing of 16". According to them, the age range is between 32 and 48 years old. Even if the rack can handle it, I wouldn't go any wider. The maximum width that can be used is approximately 46".

Is there a limit to how wide you can go? What do you mean? It has been asked, but all that has been said is that it can hold tires. A precise measurement is what I'm after. ?

At its widest setting, the angles measure around 46" from inside to inside.

What is the method for folding it? Is it possible to fold it without removing the bolts? When the cars aren't in the garage, I'd like to use this as a work bench. ?

I wouldn't recommend it as a work bench because it folds easily without the need to remove the botls. It's not even close to being flat, and it'd be shaky.

Has anyone tried it in a trailer with a roof? I'm curious as to how well it will hold tires on the way to the racetrack. ?

I agree with the other user that it depends; if you're trailering your miata's 14x5 track wheels, yes; any larger, and the bouncing in a trailer could be painful. Overload the hardware and go over the weight limit. I'd go with a more heavy-duty model or a non-folding rack with fixed hardware.

So far, everything has gone well - You Should Purchase Your Own Hardware
5/5

This is where I keep the wheels and tires from my 2011 Audi S4. It currently houses my 19-inch summer wheels, which are wrapped in 255/35/R19 tires. The combined weight of each wheel and tire is around 50 pounds. So far, the tire rack has held up well. When hanging something heavy on the wall, there is one piece of advice that I always follow: Go to the hardware store and purchase your own lag bolts. It could just be me, but I'm not confident in the wall-mounting hardware provided by any of these companies (and the same can be said for TV mounts). I've had the provided lag bolts break when installing into studs in the past, so spend a little more money and get some good lag bolts from your local hardware store. br>br>If you found this review to be helpful, please let me know.

It can easily accommodate a set of 19-inch wheels and tires
5/5

I purchased two of these racks in order to store my off-season clothing. For both my car and my wife's, I needed a new set of tires for the season. Two sets of 19" summer tires (245/35R19) are currently stored in them. I installed the racks according to the instructions, directly on the studs and 48" apart (the maximum width). This gives me enough wiggle room to fit all four wheels and tires. The weight has caused a TINY amount of visible "sag" or "drooping" in the cross bar, but I don't think I'm anywhere near the 300lb limit, so I don't think it's a cause for concern. They are without a doubt safe. br>br>I've seen some other reviews complaining about the racks failing to hold up or the cross bar bending due to the weight, but I'm not sure how that could happen. I believe those buyers either did not properly install them (6 total lag bolts screwed directly into the studs-DO NOT USE ANCHORS) or attempted to extend the racks beyond 48". Or maybe I just have a newer model that is more durable, but so far, I'm very pleased with this rack. It feels great to get these tires out of the garage.

It's a good deal for the money, but read the instructions before bashing it
5/5

This rack was ideal for my 245/40R18 seasonal wheels and tires. I followed some of the recommendations here for different lag bolts and had no problems. One thing to note - Many people have complained that the tires don't fit and that the back of the tire doesn't clear the wall. Please read the instructions carefully. On page 4, there is a chart that shows which positions the bars must be in to achieve the total tire diameter. Measure the distance between the ground and the top of your tire with a tape measure - The total length of my 245/40R18 is about 25 3/4" (Position 1 and 5)br>br>Then use the chart provided:br>11. 75" - 75" - Positions 1 and 3 br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br 75" - 22" - 22" - "positions 1 and 4" - "positions 1 and 4" - "positions 1 and 4" - "position 26" - 26" - 1st and 5th Positionsbr> 30" - 2nd and 5th positions.

For storing car tires, this is a very sturdy option
5/5

This is where I keep four 235/35/19 wheels that are mounted. The rack comes mostly assembled and is simple to install. Each wheel weighs about 35 pounds with tire. It's easy to line up with framing studs behind the wall thanks to the adjustable width. I was able to perform slow pull-ups after installing it. I weighed 180 pounds and did pull-ups on each cross bar separately before using both to keep it in place. The crossbars remained perfectly straight and in place. This was an excellent value and purchase for me, especially considering the price and the fact that I was using car tires.

It works fine, but keep in mind that the size of your tires may require some modification
4/5

Make sure the tires you use on this machine are the right size. I purchased two of these. I had four 17-inch tires, which fit perfectly. I was going to put 4x 20" tires right under the mount because I saw a review that said they could fit 19" tires no problem, but I had the tire rub against the wall and it didn't fully seat itself into the holder, so I got some scrap 2x4 and screwed it into the wall with 4 screws, then screwed the mount onto that 2x4 which acted as a spacer for the tires to not touch the wall and seat themselves into the holder properly. For added security, I ran one long lag bolt down the center of the mount. This allowed me to have one connection on both sides that went from the mount through the 2x4 and into a stud in my house. Also, I must say that it's pretty simple and easy to use. The middle tube holders slide and are adjustable, but they wobble and sag a little under weight when compared to something that was a solid single piece, but that's a trade-off for the unit's customizability. Under the weight of several tires, I doubt the middle tubes would break or bend.

A nice rack for storing tires
5/5

This was purchased to store off-season tires in the garage out of the way. The item was well-packaged when it arrived. Grey paint has been applied to the item. It is extremely simple to set up. I used a stud finder to find the studs I needed to install the lag bolts. I used a 7/32 drill bit to pre-drill all of the holes. This is an absolute must-do. You can cut a piece of ply wood (46. ) if you want, as someone else mentioned. 5 x 22) to create a workbench that folds up. This is a good base for a folding workbench as well as a good place to store tires. If you're looking for a new home, I recommend this one.

What I was looking for
5/5

I bought two of these to keep my seasonal tires in. These were exactly what I needed to keep the tires from slamming into the finished wall. The bigger tires (on the right in the photo) are 225 60 R17s, and there's at least one of them. Between the tires and the wall, there should be 5" of clearance. In the manual, there is a chart that shows how to adjust the crossbars for different tire sizes. br>Installation went smoothly and was relatively painless. I installed them on my own, but I wish I had had someone to hold things steady while I marked the hole locations and level lines. br>I bought new lag screws after reading other reviews. 3/8 x 3 was the size I used. Since I have a finished wall, I'm going to go with 5" (larger ones in the photo). In addition, I purchased a box of 1" washers. I used a 1" spade bit to drill through the drywall only after drilling 15/64" pilot holes through the drywall and stud. After that, I mounted the brackets by inserting 6 washers into each hole to match the drywall thickness. The washers prevent the drywall from being crushed, resulting in a very rigid installation (many thanks to the reviewer who suggested this first). br>br>I am very happy with these racks and would recommend them to anyone looking to free up some space on their floor. Simply plan ahead and purchase new hardware for your installation.
