This carrier has dissatisfied me greatly. I even posed the following question to the Amazon community: Before I bought it, I checked to see if it would fit a 4 1/2 in on 5 lug bolt pattern. It does not, in spite of my answer. If you try to make it work, you'll either have to increase the distance between the lug bolts by expanding the square carriage bolt opening, or you'll strip out the threads while trying to get it on and off. If you tried to make it work, you'd need at least two people to put it on and off. Engineering is a disaster. They only needed to make a 1/4" adjustment to the carriage bolt holes. I'd be happy with it if it fit a 4 and 1/2 on a 5, but it's not mentioned in the description. It could work with other bolt patterns as well. The Trimax nut lock I bought for it doesn't even fit because the carriage bolts protrude too far, making it impossible to install the lock without removing the black waterproof grommet.
The listing specifies which bolt patterns it is compatible with, as well as "tires up to 15. " That is, to some extent, correct. This was purchased as a spare for my pontoon trailer, which has 10" rims. The mount is easy to install and appears to be well-made. The issue is with the u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped u-shaped bolts. They're too long for the smaller rim and tire combinations. Before securing the ubolt, I noticed the end of it contacting the tire. The tire would have been damaged or punctured, but there is some good news. It worked well enough to move the rim/tire outboard with washers. I had the option of cutting the u-shape as well. However, that would entail more effort. I gave it three stars because the information was incomplete, and I would have had to return it if I hadn't had washers on hand.
I had to mount a hot dipped galvanized spare tire carrier to match my boat trailer because it was hot dip galvanized. Because of its simplicity and construction, I particularly like this spare carrier bracket. It's well-engineered, and it even makes use of some of the trailer frame to add to its strength. I chose to mount it close to the coupler head because I like the way it looks. I sprayed the spare tire carrier mounting u-bolt black to match the galvanized trailer. rattle-proof bolts with a cold galvanized finish can be sprayed to keep it from rusting in order to keep the rust-free look.
I had a spare tire carrier that I believe belonged to HF. The welds on three sides of the carrier broke one day on the way to the lake, and the tire was lying horizontally with only the bottom weld holding it in place. I don't want to think about what might have happened if this had happened on the freeway at 55 mph. I took a look at this CE Smith-made item. I liked the 27310G Spare TIRE Carrier Heavy Duty because it didn't rely on welds to keep it firmly attached to the trailer for the most part. Excellent purchase, simple to set up, and assurance that it will never fail.
It appears to have a variety of settings to accommodate most applications. On a rectangular aluminum trailer, I mounted this tire carrier. It was a perfect fit and took only 10 minutes to put together. Make sure to use anti-bacterial soap. Glue on lug nuts so that when you need a spare tire, you can remove it and use it.
High-quality part that perfectly fits my Tidewater trailer. The push nuts that keep the wheel studs from falling out are the only thing that bothers me. They're not tight, so when you try to install the spare, the bottom wheel stud tends to move, which is inconvenient. A fantastic product, aside from that.
It comes with two sets of mounting brackets, one for larger frames and the other for smaller frames. I used the smaller size for a 2x3 inch trailer tongue, and it holds a 12 inch spare tire securely in place. The mount's offset allows it to be easily positioned without interfering with the boat or winch.
The mount is there, but it was clearly used, and every nylanut was previously tightened by someone who didn't have the correct size socket, so that's that. It was in a bag that had been approved for shipping, so it had been used. Then Amazon will be able to charge you less. Recently, Amazon has been a huge letdown. However, on the plus side, it has encouraged me to shop more locally.
