This metal was bought to weld on the side of the trailer which does not have The fact that other reviewers claimed they had to modify the mount to fit lug pattern 5 on 4 made me hesitant at first. According to the other reviewer, if it has three sets of holes, you're good to go. For a 5 on 4, the smaller offset holes will be circled in red. Make sure you use the smaller 1/2 studs and not the larger 9/16 (both line up), or else the wheel will not sit flush when mounted. In order to prevent theft of a trailer mounted spare tire, you should purchase security wheel locks or run a cable and lock through the wheel.
Some reviews indicate that this has been a problem for some users. The trailer I have is made of aluminum. It is a simple matter to mount this spare tire holder using a standard 2x4 that slips through the aluminium bracket of the trailer. I thought I needed to do little more than remove some powder coating based on the reviews. The powder coating around the place where this slides into the aluminum trailer bracket had to be removed. In order to get this medal to fit I used my disk grinder to remove about a third of the coating by removing about 1/32 of the medal. As it extended at least 1/8 inch beyond the bottom of the aluminium bracket, the bracket did not line up with the mount. Having to remove 1/8 inch was necessary in order for the bracket that bolts to the bottom of the spare tire mount to be able to secure the spare tire in the aluminium bracket securely. I've just done a quick inspection, and it looks like I'll also need to make some modifications to the mount to fit The spare tire rim fits 5 spare tires. I'm not a big fan of the work but this mount offers so much more for the same price as most others This trailer can be mounted with the spare tire mount Aluma sells. I have updated It's no problem installing the wheel studs. In the photo with the wheel studs showing, the bolts are the four 5 bolts. There is a 5 inch spacing between each.
With the help of a dead blow hammer, I managed to get this into the stake pocket of the new trailer. There is no room for error here! It is hard to take the tire off because the bolts are too large and too long. A lot of washers and an impact wrench were necessary for the mounting plate to seat the bolts. They would be seated, and then tightened on to the rim after the nuts bottomed out on the threads. A 14 foot trailer with 16 inch tires and 8 lug trims is available for purchase. By using 1/2" washers, I was able to shim behind and in front of the rim so the nuts would tighten and hold the rim firmly in place. The spare tire sticks out beyond the fender after mounting, so when backing up it can be difficult to see the down side of the trailer. On the passenger side of the trailer, I mounted this in a stake pocket in the middle between the front and fender.
In order to fit my husband's car trailer with spare tires, I purchased a spare tire carrier. When I measured the stake pocket twice and ordered it, I didn't realize it wasn't a perfect rectangle since it was 1/4" smaller in the front. I ordered a 3 1/4 front stake pocket and a 3 1/2 rear stake pocket ultimately. The trailer was constructed incorrectly, not the fault of the product, and it didn't fit for us. So 4 stars for sturdiness and 5 stars for style. **4 stars for lock only because we could not lock it in, but we did not have a problem with the product we had a problem with There is no question that this item is well built and would work effectively. It would be great if it came in 3 1/4" I would buy it right away.
There is no room for this unit in the stake pocket of a Longhorn Trailer. However, the bolt must be started with an extremely long handle, making it difficult to lock/unlock the bolt. In the end, it would have cost me more money and time to cut apart all of the parts and weld the carrier together myself. This is a starter kit, as the title suggests.
How can the problem be fixed? In place of welding the bracket to the trailer, I welded another stake pocket on the trailer that would allow the carrier bracket to fit. As I was required to remove the carrier and its associated tire, I used a piece of oversized thread/locking nut in lieu of the provided bolt so that the carrier could be easily removed and reinstalled.
I mounted our spare unit perfectly to it, since the unit fits in the stake pocket well. 3 stars is a really good score for me. Due to two reasons, I give this a five-star rating. We experienced a vibration somewhere along our first trip that left the mounting bolt and plate loose even after I tightened them with a breaker bar. Furthermore, it would be better made and more lockable if it was made longer and pinned in like the stake pocket rings that I was able to use a lock My solution was to run a coated cable through the rim of the spare tire and connect it to the trailer with a lock to prevent theft of the spare tire.
As of the moment, the pictures are as shown on the The paint is thin, and it is painted on a thin layer. The description does not fit, as others have pointed out. The edges had to be smoothed down in order for it to A lock is not present on this device. A bracket's bolt head was welded to the bracket so that a wrench couldn't be used to remove it. It would be possible to drill a hole through this and the stake pocket and then lock it up. The price is excessive for what the product is, but it performs well nonetheless.
The fit and offset are perfect. This mount base is too long for a tie down bolt, so this is not something that would be used. Through the side mount and stake holder, I drilled two 1/4" holes and attached the stake holder with two 1/4" x 1" bolts and Nylocks. The offset is just right for my top side rail to miss the tire.
