Selected User Reviews For First Alert CO250 BRK RVA RV Approved CO Alarm
I had hoped for something more than a May 2018 date code. . . . But it was a dead ringer for the one I had in my RV. There is no need to make any changes. This item was made in Mexico. The fact that it came with a 10-year lithium battery (made in China) was a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure how long the battery will last since it wasn't connected, but First Alert assured me that the date code was correct. That it is based on the date you first turn it on, rather than the date it was manufactured. 7-day replacement First Alert smoke detectors have a 10-year warranty from the date they were first turned on.
I ordered this co alarm for my RV, but the picture depicted an alarm that used two AA batteries rather than a 9V battery. CO250RVA, not BRK CO250B, was the number from First Alert. I'm going to keep it, but I'm not thrilled with it.
This is a direct replacement for the original. There is one minor issue: July 20, 2021, and the item I received was manufactured in May of 2018! Yes, that is correct. It's been over three years since this smoke detector was installed! It'll be returned the next day. What a colossal squandering of resources.
The detector works fine, but the packing slip stated that two were shipped, but there was only one in the box when I received the first shipment. I'm hoping quality control is more stringent than shipping control.
In my 2005 Airstream, it was simple to replace the old Dometic CO detector. I was able to reuse one of the old backing plate's holes on the new backing plate, but I had to drill a new hole for the second. My previous unit ran on a 9V battery, whereas this one runs on two AA batteries.
This smoke detector was a perfect match for the one in my RV that had failed. I have similar expectations for this one as I did for the original, which lasted seven years. Let's see how things turn out.
In our camper, this is an excellent replacement. For campers with propane-fueled heaters, this is critical. A generator, either internal or external, is also available. This one is in the bedroom, and it provides excellent peace of mind while sleeping. This purchase was well worth the money, and I am extremely pleased with it.
Good product, well-made, simple to install, and a reasonable price. When the need arises, I will purchase another.
