Questions & Answers

What exactly does dbrating entail?

It has a decibel rating of 140. It vibrates the ground beneath my truck at 120 psi! They're fantastic.

On my old train horns from horn blasters, I have a 3/8 solenoid. Is it possible to change the horns to these?

Yes, I used a 3/8" female reducing adapter to match the threads on the horn air inlet and a 3/8" NPT threaded air solenoid valve from a truck parts dealer. Even with the slight size reduction from 3/8" line and fittings to the horn set's smaller threaded hole size, it works fantastically. Of course, I'm working with Vi- At up to 200 psi, the air compressor is set to shut off. Bystanders will believe a train is on its way to run them over.

Has anyone found a good source for a better solenoid and/or better support rings, as well as part numbers?

The solenoid on Hornblasters is 3/8. That's what I did with mine, and I'm also using 3/8 air line because these horns are extremely loud. They come with a solenoid that is far too small.

What are the dimensions of these things? On an SUV, where would you install them?

They're quite substantial. I don't have an exact measurement at the moment, but I installed them on a 2000 Ford F150 and had only three options: Fit it around the outside of the frame, into the bed, or onto the roof (barely). If you have an SUV, you won't be able to park it underneath it. I couldn't get it under my pickup truck by a long shot. I had a few centimeters to spare, so I was able to get it to fit where it is now. It's enormous, and the amount of noise it makes reflects that.

It needs more air to come alive, and these horns are only ok out of the box
4/5

Replace the low-flow 3/8 npt solenoid and 3/8 od air lines with a high-flow 3/8 npt solenoid and 3/8 od air lines if you want to make them awesome. These horns are going to scream if you set it up like this. The volume difference is noticeable, and the start/stop transition is very crisp. If they had a better air delivery system, this would have been a five-star review. Aside from that, they're solid metal horns that are well-made. I would strongly advise purchasing these (along with a larger solenoid).

They're incredibly loud, to say the least
5/5

These things are considerably louder than my Nathan air chimes. However, in a unique manner. These are obviously much less expensive in terms of fit and feel, but they're only a fifth of the price of a used set of real train horns, and they're not designed to be used on top of a train for 5 million miles. br>I went to a hardware store and bought a ball valve to feed the air into the system. br>br>The sound is insane. br>br>The original solenoid appears to be VERY restrictive. These are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more loud than I mean, you can feel these in your chest, and I'd give them a five-star rating for the price.

Wow! I took it out of the box, attached an elbow to the 12V relay, and connected it to my 12V power supply with a wire
5/5

Then my wife came out of the house and to the garage yelling that I scared the $% & Dogs were barking for miles because of her, and I don't have a rabbit problem any longer. It's a good thing we live in a rural area! br>br>I'm hoping those pesky day boaters will now move out of the way when I'm trying to get the Houseboat into my slip. Jussayin.

Second set of great horns
5/5

Loud af. Excellent pitch and sound. It doesn't have the factory solonoid, but it does have a 1/4 air line tube. The side of the solonoid that goes into the horns, on the other hand, has barely enough room for air to pass through! br>br>Had a train horn blast off, which was hilarious! br>br>I used a 3/8 solonoid from Hornblasters, but a 3/8 to 1/4 not reducer is required. And, because the hornblasters solonoid uses 1/2 air line, you'll need a different fitting if you want to use 3/8 air line.

A train horn that is extremely loud
5/5

These are awe-inspiring! They're a tad bit obnoxious. I purchased and installed an upgraded 3/8 solenoid. When these devices are turned on, they cause the ground to shake. It was a lot of fun. Very efficient. Observation - The sport bar for the two larger trumpets came loose, so I tightened it up with a lock washer and that was the end of it.

Boat Horn of the Year
5/5

We bought this horn for our 52' Trawler in order to deter other boaters from approaching us while we were in a narrow waterway, such as when passing under a bridge with a narrow channel. They are unaware that due to our height depth restrictions, we must remain centered in the channel, making it extremely dangerous for them to pass through with us. Nothing will stop them if this horn does not sound like a train approaching right in front of you. It appears to be well-made, with high-quality materials for longevity.

They are loud, excellent in every way, maintain a light oil film, and are always shiny, and they save lives! This is the second set, the first set was for fun on a ranch house gable roof, and this set is for a pickup truck
5/5

The majority of the time, a loud horn will deter an idiot from crossing into your path. br>I recommend disconnecting the solinoid and connecting it to a hose barb and a hose with an air valve. Depending on the flow and distance from the tank, this will require a 1/2" hose and 30 min psi to run. The longer the hose run, the larger the hose and the higher the pressure. More psi = more volume and successbr>Have funbr>just mess around with your setup. It's a safe toy that you can't lose. Just make sure you don't give anyone a heart attack!.

Excellent sound and image quality
5/5

Wow is all I have to say. These horns are of exceptional quality and construction, and they sound identical to train horns. First and foremost, let me state unequivocally that I despise China. These horns are handcrafted in the United States, and the attention to detail is evident. Everything was secured in place with bolts, from the chrome to the bolts. The air solenoid was the only thing they cut corners on. Although the horn manual specifies a 5/16 supply line, the solenoid outlet is only about 1/8 inch. But, knowing this would be the case, I ordered a large, heavy-duty one to provide plenty of air to these guys. I was blown away.
