Then and now It was a recommendation from a friend that led to my purchase of these hood pins. Their low profile, easy operation, and good looks make them a good option. I would like to make a suggestion that would make it easier for you. You can easily install these if you are installing the pins from the hood support frame to a part of the hood that the pins will penetrate. Instead of drilling a pilot hole into the whole hood like the directions suggest, you can drill the pin directly into the frame. To begin with, use some lithium grease to put at the top of the pin once it is set where you want it to be. Mark where the pins will go on that hood support frame when the hood is lowered gently. Grease up the pin again and gently lower the hood. You will insert the pins through the holes made 2 1/2 inches in diameter and mark where the next pilot holes should be drilled on the underside of the The start of the pilot holes should be drilled from underneath, and then the 1 1/4 holes should be drilled You can wear them with no problem. Using this method, the drill bit angle will be taken care of, and everything will be perfectly centered.
I hope that helps, but in all seriousness, they are worth every penny.
It looks great, and does not leave a large impression on the hood or panel. The only complaint I have is that if you live in a colder climate and install these on your daily driver, the latches can freeze, preventing your removal. If your battery goes flat or dead from cold weather, you will have to warm up the latches so you can access a battery under the hood or panel to recharge or jump-start.
I also had to extend the pins for the Juke hood as the pins are not long enough. It is probably the most inefficient design in history to use the lock ring for the latch body. The line up still isn't ideal because I can't get the images aligned. Often times I end up getting one side done, but the other side never lines up.
I bought these catches for my 1987 Dodge Ram 150 with a steel hood. They worked great. It may be necessary to buy some bolts and nuts to elongate the studs if your hood is large, otherwise they won't I went to Lowe's and bought bolts with the same thread pitch. I believe it was 3/8-inch In addition to working great, they also look great. It took me about two hours to install, due to my paranoia about where to put the studs, symmetry, etc. All in all, this is a GREAT product, do not skimp on products like this. I am very pleased with this product.
As a whole, this provides a solid defense against the CF Hood. The second bullet point is "2) The following three items are essential to address 3) You will save money on your install with this hood pin, despite it's high price. It's much easier to install than Aerocatch hood pins. Then the following is a list of the elements 4) There is also a lifetime warranty on the product.
My body guy was able to install it and adjust my stock latch so that I would have security and safety. only about 350 miles into my commute when I write this review. Nothing to complain about.
The product works great and looks great. It was easy to install and straight forward. If you are nervous about drilling holes in your hood, take your time. The installation took approximately 2 hours, and it works great.
