3/8" is the diameter of the hole.
This item is sold in a set of two. Each order comes with two straps.
It's a 1,500-pound strap that's 1" wide. It's about 7 or 8 inches long, if memory serves me correctly.
I'd put my faith in them completely. As a result, I don't rely on them as my sole source of restraint. My 18-foot sailboat is secured. Kayaks can also be hooked up to the roof rack.

Installation was simple, and the product was of good quality. I bolted them to an existing bolt point under the hood and will keep them there until I need to carry the kayaks. The heat from the engine, the salt water, and the tension from the tie-downs are all factors to consider. It hasn't been difficult to deal with the ups and downs. I haven't noticed any paint issues on the hood edge where it meets the hood when it's in use.
I haven't seen any of the high-end name-brand versions of these, such as Thule's. They are, however, about a third of the price, and you can rest assured that your money will go to a Louisiana home. Cajun is the name given to it. I expect it to put in a lot of effort and be tough enough to spend its entire life outside and enjoy it. br>br>I'm really glad I came across these people. When I wasn't sure if I needed a custom product, they responded within a day or so, and I like the other products they make; it looks like cajun ingenuity, not just copying other people's work.
We transport our kayaks to local destinations using our GMC Acadia. The Acadia's front end, like the front ends of many modern SUVs, is covered in plastic. This provides a secure connection point for the front tie ropes, allowing the kayak carrier to operate more efficiently. Although the front of our Yukon XL has hooks, we purchased a set of these straps for it as well, because it provides a more convenient connection point with a more useful rope angle. We'll see how they hold up over time (we tuck them under the hood when not in use), but for now, we're pleased with the straps.
They were easy to install on my Xterra and provide a convenient and secure place to tie down my kayaks in less than 5 minutes. These were ordered so I wouldn't have to worry about the bow lines rubbing paint off the hood or scratching the grill. Furthermore, there is no need to descend and secure the ropes beneath the front end. When not in use, they tuck neatly beneath the hood.
The hole size is ideal, the built-in rings around the holes are solid and clean, the length is ideal, and the coating prevents them from being rough and scratchy. I still used painters tape to protect the edge of my hood, but I would have done the same thing with silk loops! The price was also attractive, and the fact that they were made in the United States drew me in. I'll probably check out their other offerings.
A fender bolt under the hood is easily covered by eyelets. A rope tied to the bow of a 12' kayak strapped to the roof of my SUV was securely held in place by the strap. When not in use, it tucks neatly under the hood.
I installed them under the hood as directed for a safe and secure way to secure/tie down my canoe. Note: I had to make my own larger washers and longer screws because the ones on my vehicle weren't quite right. This is a very easy upgrade to install. Quality ratchet straps, preferably two over the top of your vehicle, as well as rear tie downs, are obviously essential.
These were purchased to go on the back liftgate of my mother's small SUV. She is too short to reach the gate and close it after it has been opened. The straps were fastened to the inside door panel's lower portion. It's now easy for her to close the gate.
