Selected User Reviews For CURT 18221 Extended Roof Rack Cargo Bag

After experiencing such great quality from this bag, I was forced to write a review on Amazon
5/5

In general, I don't leave any Amazon reviews, because I'm a jerk who always reads them. Having bought stuff from Amazon for years, I was finally compelled to write a review after this bag worked so well for me. This bag was used to carry things on the top of my Jeep as I recently drove from a northern state to the deep south. My move was delayed for several weeks due to bad weather, and when a nice day appeared about a week before I moved, I jumped at the chance to load up the bag. After going through snow, rain, sleet, and high wind for about a week and a half, the bag underwent another extreme weather situation. As I traveled down, I experienced heavy rain for a period of about two hours. Regardless of whether you imagine it or not, everything in the bag was completely My first reaction would have been to be impressed even if things had gotten only a little wet, but this was absolutely amazing. Also, the bag was pretty good in all respects as far as usability was concerned. Straps included in the box seem sufficient, and loading up the mat was easy. In the time it was loaded before my move, I only used those straps, and it held up pretty The real move was a little more complicated, as I used ratcheted tie downs on top of the bungee cords. There were two reasons for this There are two reasons for this 1) The included straps make it difficult to adjust the bag while moving and 2) I'm a very paranoid person, so I always want to make sure my bags stay where they are supposed to. You should know that this bag is very large, so it was perfect for my roof rack, since I have a sizeable vehicle. As well as making sure that it is completely filled, otherwise, it might flap on you (this may be a problem for all of these type of bags). As a final step I stuffed it with pillows and blankets around the zippered part of the bag to make sure all possible space was used (note that all the pillows and blankets were dry when I placed them in the bag). It's hard to know what to say more. This is the bag for you if you need a cargo bag and have the room for it. It is a good buy. As well as the smaller bags, Curt carries larger bags. The quality of all of them appears to be the same.

I'm impressed with how well this worked! A surprising amount of success was achieved with this approach
5/5

This item appeared to be very durable and well-made I made a lot of stuff, as well as held it. Then we put everything inside large plastic bins and coolers, both for protection but also because they fit perfectly in a cargo bag, and filled it up with products. The contents was loaded so tightly, we were concerned it would shift when we braked or went over bumps or whatever. However, it held everything very securely, and nothing shifted even over bumpy, curvy dirt roads and ice There seemed to be a learning curve pain the first time we used it figuring out the best way to install, load, and then securely secure the product. As with everything, it took a long time the first time, but it was quicker the next time after we got the hang of it. Overall, we were very satisfied with the quality of the gear and it arrived safely after two vehicles traveled many miles to Alaska.

It is confirmed Water is not able to enter the zipper
3/5

I didn't even think about it at all. It has been pointed out that the zipper on this bag is not waterproof, so it is not As it is a clamshell bag, it has three sides with zippers, with the only thing that is missing being the interior zip pocket. There is a zippered side (the "hinge") on the length-controlled side This makes getting into and out of the bag easier, but also means that when the bag is mounted on the roof of your car, one of the zippered (short-length) sides will always face forward (into the wind and the rain as your car thunders along). Despite one reviewer's recommendation (to leave both zipper pulls at the rear end of the bag), even if you leave both zipper pulls at the front, you will still get rain in the bag through the seam at the front. It is likely that instead of installing a waterproof zipper on the bag, the production costs (and sale price) would have actually risen, and fewer people would have purchased the bag. I assume the company made this decision for that reason. a. (This zipper is even not the best a. A zipper with a waterproof seal In the event you don't pull the bag tight along the zipper as you close it, it will jump and kink and miss teeth (the corners will be the most problematic). In order to compensate for the zipper, the company added a flap that hangs over it with Velcro squares at periodic intervals to hold it in place. However, this is not adequate hold for the flap on the side of the bag that faces forward, as the wind will simultaneously blow up in the top flap, flipping it back, and push in on the bottom half of the bag, further increasing the gap between flap and bag. The result is that all the rainwater goes right under the flap and through Water will then pool inside your bag because there is no air or ventilation, and so if the bag is wet, the water will soak into your things instead. Mold will start forming faster than you can believe if you do not get it out and dried as soon as possible. Basically, you need to either hope it doesn't rain while you're driving or duct tape it with duct tape and hope for the best.

It's so great to have a cargo roof bag! Hence the reason we bought this Cargo Bag for our Honda Pilot (along with the roof rack) in 2017
5/5

I found it to be a great tool! There's no need for batteries in this thing, it's waterproof In the market, there are quite a few that are "water-resistant. " This black bag features a heavy-duty zipper around three of its four sides, a flap serving as a cover for the zipper, and Velcro to hold the flap closed. Despite a small rainstorm and pretty strong wind, we drove 800 miles on this bag on the roof with no movement and nothing got wet. With this carrier, we were able to pack 4 pilot cases (small suitcases), duffle bags, and so much more, and there was plenty of room left for more (just make sure not to overload it due to the weight limit of the roof rack). In terms of putting it on the roof rack and securing it, it was not difficult at all. It is a great product! We first bought one of the plastic pods for the roof but returned it, and we are It worked out much better for us this way. When we arrived at our destination, the bulky pod was no longer on the roof, and it was much easier for us to store it when it wasn't in use. Amazon is where you can buy it, by the way. I bought it from Purchase. com at a lower cost than I thought it would be.
