When you buy a truck rack, especially one that costs more than $500, you usually want to get a complete rack, not one that requires you to go back and buy more items. br>This rack does not include top cross bars, as shown in the photo, and the description does not state that it does; it simply states that it "works with hd cross bars. " It's a bit lame that you have to spend an extra $249 to finish this rack. br>br>Apart from that, the equipment is of excellent quality. I just wish the description was a little clearer so I could use this rack for the weekend trip I ordered it for.
I was a little nervous about getting this Yakima rack because none of the photos I could find showed how high the lowest setting was, and I didn't want it to stick out over my cab. Regardless, I purchased it and was pleasantly surprised to find it to be less expensive than the cab. This thing is going to outlast the truck by a long shot. Yakima, I appreciate your efforts.
However, be aware of what you're purchasing! My Toyota Tundra is a 2016 model. I was looking for a rack and after doing some research, I settled on this one. My second choice was the THULE, but I decided against it because it required me to dismantle my truck's rail system. This rack is extremely durable. br>br> I found the installation to be fairly simple, and I would advise anyone interested in purchasing this to visit yakimatech. com to double-check that you have all of the necessary components. It's true that the cross bars aren't included. You'll have to order those separately, and you'll need to know what size to get based on your application's yr/mk/mdl. This isn't the cheapest rack on the market. If it hadn't been for the fixed height, I would have chosen the ROLA sold on Amazon, which also worked with the rail system, but I valued the adjustable height greatly. br>br>Before you buy something, do some research. If you're not picky, there are certainly less expensive options available. I was aware that I was picky, and I paid for it, but I have no regrets. This rack is of exceptional quality. It is well-made and lightweight. If needed, it can be removed quickly. Bottle openers, tie-downs, and an optional side-bar are all included. Overall, I'd recommend it to others, but be aware of what you're getting because choosing Yakima will not save you money.
Using the retrax slots and adapters, a neat and tidy installation was achieved.
It was installed on my 2018 Ford F150 crew cab with the 5. With the Retrax pro tonneau, it's a 5 bed. I was able to buy it during a Yakima sale, which brought the price down significantly. It's very sturdy and the height can be adjusted fairly easily. I've carried 6 4x4x12 boards with no problems. I raise it when I need to carry heavier items, but I keep it at the lowest setting most of the time. I really like how it looks on the truck, especially with the sidebars. Everything appears to be well-made and sturdy.
Except for the part where I had to sell a piece of my soul to get it, I like the product. PRICEY! It is simple to install on your own. Adjustments take some time, but the built-in measuring marks aid in the process. It's made of the strongest materials available. I use mine for a variety of things, including transporting kayaks, wood, and ladders. On the truck, it's also quite nice.
The top bars aren't included in the product package, so you'll have to pay an extra $700 for them. Top bars will set you back $200, and a usable bed rack will set you back $1000. I'm completely let down. Don't throw your money away.
I was put off by the price, but once I got it, I was blown away by the quality. I purchased the small crossbars, which were exactly the right size for my Frontier (note: The small crossbars aren't wide enough to support a 4 ft. ladder. Wide items, such as plywood, will work WITH the load stoppers, but will not work without them. ) If you have a Frontier with the utilitrack system and don't want to waste all that space on the tracks (or spend $120 on the adapters), simply use a sawzall to cut 3/4" off the long side of the "J" shaped clamps. I'm not sure how well this will work with the Toyota system.
