I've had this net for two months and have already taken it on a few trips, both camping and to the airport. br>br>What I like best about this basket net is how small it is when not in use - It collapses into a small package and includes a re-usable bag. mesh cinch sack that can be used multiple times - and how well it expands and adheres to the surface when used. I bought it to go with my Thule 859 Canyon Roof Mount Cargo Basket, which I also upgraded with the Thule 8591 Canyon Cargo Basket Extension. I was skeptical at first that the net would be able to stretch over all of my biking and camping gear in the basket, but this net expands to several times its resting size and securely holds everything. The elastic netting is made of thick cords and appears to be durable enough to last for many years. br>br>The hooks on this netting are sized to fit snugly with the Thule tubular steel used to construct the basket, which increased my confidence in its deployment. The hooks (which are made of strong plastic) have small finger holes that make it easy to remove them. If this product has a flaw, it is that it likes to cling to itself. Snagging and re-snagging is a breeze with the hooks. catching themselves on the elastic cords It's not the end of the world, but it does slow down the internet's deployment a little - Just keep in mind that if you're trying to wrestle this thing at the airport curb, it'll take you an extra minute or two. Overall, another excellent, if slightly pricey, Thule product that I would only use in conjunction with another Thule product to ensure maximum compatibility.
This is an excellent website - However, depending on what you're using it for, it might not be "great" unless you're packing your rack full and high, in which case the net is too large. The fact that I had to secure it by stretching it to find hook points was not difficult, but it was a little tedious. Because I have a low garage clearance of 6' 8", the height of the car, plus rails, plus rack, prevented me from stacking the roof basket high, so I had to stretch the cargo net cover all the way under the rack and find hook points when installing it. It would have been easier if it had been a two-person job, with one hooking on one side and the other pulling and yanking. It would have been more difficult for a single person to fill the net if the pile had been higher. I eventually settled on ratchet straps, which are more convenient to use for my purposes.
After a series of strong winds, I pulled over to find that my load had nearly completely dislodged from the basket and was being held precariously in a net sack, just inches from sliding off the back of my Outback. Not only to the thick side rails, but also under the basket, hook the net extremely tight. Next time, I'll probably just use tie downs, as I did with the Thule Canyon XL.
I didn't want to use ratchet straps because I had two large bins of camping gear on my roof rack, so I bought this. At first, I was dubious about its ability to securely hold large items on the roof rack. Everything stayed in place and remained intact after a 120-mile journey (mostly on the freeway, but about 10 miles were off road).
There is no slipping.
It does an excellent job of keeping the cargo on the cargo rack and not flying off while driving. I use a plastic sheet to cover my cargo before adding the net.
This was purchased to go with our Thule Canyon Roof Basket, model 859. We put our belongings in a waterproof luggage bag in the cargo basket, then cover it with this cargo basket net to keep the load from swaying or making noises on the highway. It's very simple to use and fits the basket well, with enough room for a good amount of luggage above the basket's height, perhaps a couple of feet if necessary.
Garbage collection has never looked so appealing! They are, in fact, excellent net. Exceptional quality.
