Mini Cooper Clubman's cargo basket has been extended
4/5

Rust is kept at bay. It's a good-looking rack. Because of my concerns about rusting and workmanship after reading the reviews, I was hesitant to buy. This is my opinion. Although the craftsmanship is good, issues such as screw hole misalignment and powdercoating inconsistencies are concerning and should be addressed. With this in mind, I placed an order for three: 1 heatshrink tubing with adheasive for the tube seam joints to keep water out. Details can be seen in the photo. Overall, it's a solid rack at a reasonable price when compared to Yakima and similar brands.

Prep! Prep! Prep! If you don't want it to rust, don't use it
5/5

As you can see, I took a lot of pictures for this. br>Before I bit the bullet and bought this particular roof rack, I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews. br>There are a lot of good videos and 4Runner/Jeep forums reviews that specifically discuss how to assemble this piece and install it on your car, as well as how to extend the life of the rack by properly prepping it! My dream car (4Runner!) was just delivered to me. I've been doing a lot of custom work on it myself as well- br>Thank you so much to all of those guys for their fantastic videos and feedback! br>First and foremost, as I previously stated, I conducted extensive research on how to properly prepare the roof rack before installing it on your vehicle! So, if you're like me and can't afford a $2000 roof rack, do your homework to see how you can make the less expensive roof rack last longer. br>Second-class-class-class-class-class-class-class-class-class- You can see some of the items I purchased in one of the attached photos. br>I spent $35 on all of my purchases (one tube of clear silicone, two shake cans of rubberized truck bed liner, and one can of spray foam insulation). br>br> br> br> br> br> br> br> b I used it on the rack's exposed welding. Any part of the structure where the bars connect - In order to keep it from rusting and wearing out in the future. br>Third, I purchased expandable foam spray, which I sprayed inside the roof rack tubing to prevent any water from entering the roof rack. (Which, in turn, would cause your car to rust and leak. ) )br>Fourteenth - To replace the plastic parts that come with the basket, I purchased my own metal washers, nuts, and bolts. (One reviewer recommended this because metal lasts much longer than plastic)br> I replaced the plastic parts with metal because it will obviously last much longer. br>Fifth-place finisher I sprayed rubberized truck bed liner over the roof rack after the silicone sealant had dried (about 24 hours). I used a total of four layers - (I really like how it looks when it's dry. ) br>Sixth- (rugged and matte)br> I also used silicone to seal the bolts and screws that are used to attach the roof rack - There are a couple of photos I took of that as well (for added protection from water getting through). br>Seventh-place finisher It's definitely beneficial to have someone else assist you in putting it together and installing it without scratching your car. This was my first project that I completed without the assistance of my husband, and I believe I did a decent job! br>The end result was fantastic. It weighs about 50 pounds (with the extension), which is what I have, so be careful not to overload it! Make sure you do your homework- br>This is something I intend to keep on my car all year. Because I live in Boston, the weather is always changing. So, whenever it snows, I'm going to cover it with a tarp because ice and snow can get caught between your car's hood and the basket, and I don't want the basket to be exposed to the elements. br>On my car, it looks fantastic! I'm completely enamored with it! It definitely goes with and complements my blacked-out DIY project. Emblems and wheels have been removed from the vehicle. br>I hope you found this review to be beneficial!.

If you prepare it properly, it can be a fantastic rack
5/5

After reading several reviews on this rack and others, I decided to purchase it. Personally, I preferred the style of this one over others, but I was concerned about the rusting that had been mentioned by several people. To keep mine from rusting, I replaced the U-bolts with stainless steel bolts, washers, and nuts and swapped out the mounting hardware. bolt with a piece of stainless steel that has been cut. I then assembled the rack, minus the fairing, and placed it on top of some boxes on my garage floor, spraying the entire thing black. dip. Three coats on top and three coats on the bottom, with adequate drying time in between. In total, I used three. 4 plastic cans - dunk it in it I let it dry for at least 24 hours before mounting the fairing and installing it on the roof. I haven't noticed any rust yet, but the truck has only been on the road for about 6 months. It'll be exposed to some Alaskan winters, so I'm hoping the plastic-coated steel will hold up. The dipping technique is still effective. If I notice any rust, I'll probably pull it down and plastic-coat it. It's time to dunk it once more.

For the money, this is the best rack
5/5

I spent a month looking into racks before deciding on this one. It's well-made and performs admirably. For your consideration, here are some candid responses: 1. br>br> Yes, you should use caulking at the seams to prevent rusting in the future. I used friction tape (rubber) to cover the caulking and make it look nice. br>br>2. Yes, it generates wind noise; it's a massive waffle on your roof. What do you expect in terms of wind noise? At 75 mph, it will double the amount of road noise in your car. 3. br>br>4. br>br>5. br>br>6. Making the front windscreen larger will not help. Take it from me, don't waste your time. I spent two weekends constructing various models, none of which performed better than the stock model. 4. br>br> Use lock- To prevent the knobs from becoming loose, tighten the screws when installing them. 5. br>br> Because the rack is so well made, I can probably carry more than your roof bars can, so don't overload it to the point of breaking your roof bars. It's mine to give.

The construction is solid
4/5

a low-key approach It's simple to assemble and mount. The construction is solid. a low-key approach It's simple to assemble and mount. br>br>Connecting the two halves was a tiny hassle due to one of the male ends not being straight (had to use a hammer and consistently pound at the insertion point to join the halves together), but it's not a big deal (can't be seen from any side) and one of the rib bars came bent upward than the rest, but that's no big deal (can't be seen from any side). As others have stated in their reviews, this could indicate a lack of quality control by the manufacturer. br>br>Ordered with an extension rack, which came with easy-to-follow instructions for assembling and mounting with the included parts. br>br>Cons - If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be. Aside from the bent bar, the "Rola" logo was silk screened onto the fairing rather than being applied as a sticker, making it more difficult to remove/cover up for a logoless rack. br>br>It's highly suggested.
