I had a similar concern because I had mine mounted on the back of a teardrop trailer. This is something I bought - Extender for Connor Hitch - 2" Dual Hitch Extension with High Clearance (GTW-) 4000 lb. 1625370 Trailer Hitch Extension (1625370 Trailer Hitch Extension 1625370 Trailer Hitch Extension 1625370 Trailer Hitch Extension 1625370 By shortening the main tube where it inserted into the extender and relocating the pin hole, I was able to bring the cargo carrier closer to the vehicle. I'd also avoid rattle pins and clamps because they ensure a quiet, level ride. On a Maine trip with a lot of rough road and off-road sections, it performed admirably with this setup.
2", but you can get a 1 1/4" adapter separately.
I've used it a couple of times and it's worked well so far. There is currently no rust. However, at this price, you can afford to replace it if it rusts.
This listing includes four models, all of which have reviews and, as a result, photos. There are two sizes, one folding and the other non-folding. As a result, depending on which model you use, photos may appear differently.

The cargo carrier is ideal for my needs, but the quality of the construction is subpar. Because the four support arms were not welded to the 2" square tube, the right side of the aluminum rack sits over 2" lower than the left side. br>br>I've ordered another, and hopefully it will be of better quality. br>br>In addition, I ordered this for Prime 2-day delivery. If I choose to have it replaced only, they will not send the replacement to me via Prime 2 day delivery. It'd take 5 days to arrive. So I just returned it and reordered a new one with Prime 2-day delivery.
It's nice and light aluminum, which I like. However, the manufacturer's packaging was insufficiently protective (the aluminum edge was right up against the cardboard, with no Styrofoam or other material in between), and it arrived with a nice deep ding. I figured I'd keep it anyway, since the ding would be on the hitch's side and no one would notice. No, the ding was on the backside, but it was at the bottom of the rail, so it wasn't too noticeable. And there's no way to change it - There is only one way to go. The black hitch rail must be attached to the aluminum tray, which is a pain because the hitch rail makes the entire thing unwieldy. Instead of putting it together on the ground like I did, try to do it on a table. You'll have to flip it over a couple of times. You'll also need an allen wrench to remove the four long screws. It's an excellent carrier, but the ding cost me a star.
Mine has two significant dings from. It gets 5 out of 5 stars from me. However, the packaging could be improved by the manufacturer. From shipping, mine has two large dings. I don't mind, but it's a shame that you can't get anything shipped to your house these days without it being beaten to a pulp. It's a heavy-duty and light-weight product in terms of quality. Great product; China is capable of producing high-quality items, and this is one of them. It even made it through UPS! I would recommend the hitch tightener because it works great!.
I bought the bag to go with it because the rack itself is fantastic. It's a nice storage solution that's also very easy to put on and take off. It was cheap, and the rack itself has plastic corners that are a little cheap but don't detract from its functionality. When I received the rack, it had a dent on one side where the black receiver shifted back and forth due to poor packaging, as well as a small tear on the other side that was covered by one of the stickers. I decided to live with it because it didn't really affect the functionality. After a week, I realized that since it was brand new, there shouldn't be a tear in the aluminum, so I ordered a new one. The aluminum on the replacement is torn twice. I give up and keep the original, believing that everyone will be harmed in some way.
For a camping trip, I bought this carrier. Given that I am not exceeding the weight limit, it is fairly solid and makes no noise. It performs admirably for its price. One issue I have is that my SUV exhaust pipes, as shown in the photo, are at the same level as the carrier. Because the heat from the exhaust pipe melted parts of my camping tent, I had to position my cargo so that it was not in the way of the pipes. When I drive over a dip, the carrier scrapes the road due to its low clearance. I'm curious if others have had similar problems, and there's some wiggle in the hitch, which I believe is normal given that no hitch product will fit snugly. br>br>I'm selling mine and would like to replace it with one that has a frame that is higher off the ground.
Is it suitable for low-load situations? Yes. Is it simple to operate? It's very simple. It was very simple to put together and install this hitch rack. It is extremely light and well-fitting. But, as stated in the description, I would not put 500 pounds into it. It won't rust, but it's not as durable as a more expensive, heavier steel rack. We used it to transport 150 pounds of luggage and it performed admirably. For light loads, it will be used on an ad hoc basis. If you plan to use it frequently and with heavier loads, you should either invest in a more durable rack or set realistic expectations for this one. br>br>August 27, 2020 br>br>August 27, 2020 br>br>August 27, 2020 br>b With this rack, I just got back from a 5000-mile trip. For the price, I think it's a great deal. It did an excellent job of transporting our belongings.
I sometimes have to transport pheasant crates over short distances, and those pesky birds poop every ten seconds or so. I was sick of cleaning out the back of my pickup, so I began looking into external cargo carriers. Because I install and remove it so frequently, I needed one that was lightweight. I didn't want to deal with a bigger carrier. I didn't want a 60-minute meeting, either. inch- wide carrier, because it was too cumbersome to store in the back of my truck when it wasn't in use. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, either. The MaxxHaul has a 500-pound capacity, but I'm not sure I'd put that much weight on it. I was more concerned with the carrier's appearance (see "poop" above) than with the amount of weight it could transport- I never load it up with more than 50 pounds. To secure the bird crates, I carry a few bungee cords of various lengths, and I can always find a place to clip them on the MaxxHaul. Yes, the plastic corners are a little cheesy, as other reviewers have mentioned, but I'm not going to put this carrier through a lot of punishment. If you need more capacity or a more rugged unit, you should look into a different, larger carrier. That wasn't what I needed, and I didn't want to pay four or five times as much for the MaxxHaul made of aluminum. As a result, five stars for the value and utility received for my needs, as well as no more bird poop in my truck.
