Questions & Answers
The 50-inch versarail fit perfectly on a 2003 Ford Focus after adjusting the suction cups, and it easily carried two kayaks. Best of luck!
No, but make sure the car's surface is clean before installing the suction cups. I'm very pleased with the product and would recommend it to others.
When you visit the Malone website, you'll find a compatibility section that lists which of their products are compatible with which vehicles.
Is there a flat surface for the suction cups to work on? Yes, if that is the case.

I looked at cross-references for several weeks. To transport our kayaks, we need bars for our vehicles. We own a Ford Escape (2016) and a Nissan Altima (2005), both of which are devoid of side rails. I needed something that I could use on both my cars and my motorcycle. I started by looking at the bars that connect to hooking systems. However, I was concerned that they would not be durable enough. In addition, I discovered that most of these hook-ups would require a different size bar for each of my vehicles. systems of classification br>br>As a result, I eventually settled on the Malone VersaRail system. I went with the shorter (50") style because I thought the longer ones would protrude too much from the sides of our Nissan. I was irritated by the fact that I had to wear straps - In the event of rain, this is primarily due to water wicking into the vehicle. It also meant that when I wasn't going to use them, I'd have to remove them from the vehicle. However, I believed that the strap system would be more secure than the other systems and that it would be simple to install and remove. br>br>Well, I've been very pleased with these bars since I first saw them in the box. They're even more durable than I expected. They are, however, light enough to be easily handled. I was able to set up my J-box. Kayaks can be mounted on these bars with bar mounts and will remain there indefinitely. We simply set the bars (J-) when we're ready to go. We'll strap the VersaRails (bars and all) to the top of either car, load up the kayaks, and we'll be on our way. br>br>We've gone on a few short trips with the kayaks strapped to the roof. We also took a longer trip (1 hour each way) that included a lot of time driving at 70 mph on the interstate. They stayed in place perfectly, and the kayaks were securely fastened. It takes us about 15 minutes to load the VersaRails and kayaks onto the Escape's roof, and another 5 minutes to unload everything. br>br>We are extremely happy with our purchase and would recommend it to anyone.
This is absolutely fantastic! I ordered three different rail systems with metal plates to keep them in place and returned them all. I was initially skeptical of this product because it is held in place by a fastener, but I was mistaken. This is a very universal system that should fit any car with a naked roof, in my opinion. The suction cups are powerful, and the fasteners work well. br>br>I've gotten rid of 70-percent of my possessions. I was driving at 80 mph on the freeway with two 8-foot boards tied together with dorsal fasteners and had no problems. The speed and wind make very little noise (it's barely audible), and it's consistent and dependable. This is something I would recommend to anyone looking for a rail system or for any other reason. br>br>So far in 2019, this has been my best purchase. br>Everyone have a great time outside.
Installation and removal from the vehicle are both simple. One word of caution: the nylon straps must be attached inside the car, and if it's raining, the nylon straps must be attached outside the car. They'll draw moisture into the vehicle. When there are unexpected pop-up showers in the spring and summer, I would never leave this on overnight.
This roof rack is in the middle of the price range, but it is far superior to one of the cheaper models. First, the suction cups (2 on each leg) are well-made and provide a large surface area on the roof to spread and carry the load without jeopardizing the car's roof. I only had four sheets of drywall with me. That's a significant amount of weight to carry. The unit was simple to set up and remove. It also made no noise while traveling at 60 miles per hour with the load on board. A Thule rack was recommended by a friend. They're lovely, but they're also quite pricey, at around $450. Only 5 or 6 times per year do I require this unit. I don't require something flashy or expensive; instead, I require something that is both inexpensive and functional.
The product was damaged when it arrived (the cross bar was bent), but I had no choice but to try to use it because I was leaving that day for a camping trip. Because the mounting straps go through the interior of your vehicle and collapse the window/roof weather strips, rain follows the straps past the compressed weatherstrips into the interior of your vehicle (mine is a new Nissan Titan) and it is not just a drip but a steady flow of water following the straps completely through the interior getting everything inside below the straps soaking wet in both the front and rear sashes. I tried hanging towels near the windows to catch the water, but they quickly became soaked and only exacerbated the problem. I'm returning my carriers because they were damaged when I got them. (surely not unknown to them) suggests that it is only suitable for use in a dry environment.
Straps from the factory are excellent. Water gets in through the door panels in heavy rain, so I've had them on all winter. br>br>I'd recommend purchasing a wind fairing wing.
I have a Toyota Tundra and a couple of 90-pound canoes, so I decided I needed some racks and researched the more expensive brands. I had a couple of Yakima racks that would have cost more than these racks to transfer to my new vehicle. Based on my needs, I determined that the Molone Versarail would be the best choice. I'm blown away by the quality and ease of use of these products. After a few minor adjustments, the racks were up and running in under 15 minutes. Simple to put together and even simpler to install on the truck. These racks look great on the truck and work flawlessly. I haven't had any issues with rain and believe the majority of the issues would be with the vehicle's weather strips, keeping in mind that regardless of the strap material, there will be some wicking to the inside. After a smooth 300-mile round trip at highway speeds, I installed the Malone gunnel brackets and couldn't be happier with my purchase.
