Cross Bars for a Toyota 4Runner that are genuine Toyota parts
4/5

On my 2018 4Runner, it was a perfect fit. Any fifth-generation 4Runner should be able to use this. The cons: (1) The plastic ends of the cross bars, which connect to the 4Runner, are made of. I'm not convinced about the durability of the plastic. long-term viability (2) The tightening mechanism is also made of plastic, which raises the same concerns as the first. (3) Because there is no locking mechanism, anyone with a screwdriver could easily steal these in minutes. br>br>I used to have Yakima cross bars, which were built like a rock and allowed me to haul loads of firewood on the roof for camping with ease. There was also a locking mechanism on each connection point. I just wouldn't trust these with my life. Especially since the instructions say to tighten them after every 600 miles of driving. br>br>These can be easily slid up and down to accommodate various uses (e. g. , and swapping ski racks for a roof rack). It is also simple to set up: (1) Remove the plastic end caps with a screwdriver or a trim removal tool; (2) with the arrows pointing forward, slide the racks into place; (3) hand tighten handle clockwise to stop it from sliding; because it's made of plastic, stop as soon as you feel pressure; (4) Tighten it to the proper length using an allen wrench bit; (5) Replace the rubber bumpers in front of the rear plastic caps that were removed in step 1; (6) Reinstall your car's plastic end caps. br>br>Photos are available.

Original equipment manufacturer part with a shoddy design
3/5

I'm not sure what Toyota had in mind when they designed these. The bars themselves are in good condition. They aren't the sturdiest things in the world, but I'm confident they can handle the loads Toyota suggests. However. These are incredibly close to the roof of your four-runner. Clamp style boxes, such as those made by Yakima or others, have limited space and can rub when loaded. My particular box was also unable to adjust far enough to avoid colliding with the open rear hatch. If that's important to you, next to the largest Skybox torpedo style (half roof width units). Because of this, I'm not sure what would work in terms of a cargo box. br>br>Because these are slightly curved, anything that requires a flat surface for mounting will have problems. br>br>In short. . . Because of the curved design, only clamp-style attachments will work, but because there is so little relief to the roof, most clamp mechanisms will either not fit or will pose a high risk of damaging your paint through rubbing during use. Mounts for bikes and other vehicles that are smaller and lighter. most likely to succeed I'm not sure if heavier duty gear is available for kayaks. When installed in the recommended locations for low wind noise, you won't even notice they're there.

Non-proprietary, low-cost product Customer service was already in place, but one of the tightening knobs had broken
3/5

Poor product quality and brittle material at the point of failure, which could result in a dangerous failure while driving if it occurred while the vehicle was loaded. When a refund or replacement was requested, the seller declined. I would never order from this seller again, and I would never buy this product.

Installing it was a breeze
5/5

I went on YouTube and watched a few videos. The forward orientation of the cross bars, as well as the front and back locations, are clearly marked. br>The only difficult part was removing the rear rail caps with the proper tool. br>In the videos, the guys use a thick piece of cloth to protect the paint on the vehicle's roof and a prying tool with a thin edge to get under the cap and pop it off. br>I had a 7" long pry bar and a plastic fastener removal tool with me. Both of these options were effective. br>br>After removing the rear rail caps, install the front cross bar first. br> I supported the cross bar close to center to get the far side started first, then closed and slid the front cross bar forward before installing the rear. br>Because the vehicle rails already have suggested markings, I placed them there and tightened the hand screws. br>I finished by replacing the rail cover.
. Getting the tools and watching the video will probably take about 15 minutes.

packaging that is substandard I've gone through two sets of these, both of which were damaged in transit
3/5

The first was obtained through a Warehouse Deal, and the box was even labeled "Damaged" in black marker, indicating that these items had not been screened out during the initial return process. The second set was purchased through Amazon from a Toyota Dealer, and while the box was slightly damaged, the contents appeared to be in good condition. When I opened them up, I discovered that two of the cross bar's four endcaps were floating inside the box and had been damaged. br>br>In the end, I went to the dealer and purchased them from the parts department. They went together without a hitch and appear to be strong enough to hold skis or a couple of suitcases.

I bought these for my 5th generation 4Runner and they're a good OEM product with great customer service
5/5

The crossbars fit perfectly and were simple to install, but because of the way they attach to the roof rails (in the slots), they are too close to the vehicle's roof. Because the attachments rubbed against the car roof and there was insufficient clearance for the satellite wing, using a cargo box became a problem. I ended up returning for an aftermarket part. br>br>However, I'd like to commend the seller, North Park Toyota, on their exceptional customer service! Doug, the Amazon order representative, was extremely accommodating with the product return, which I greatly appreciated. This seller has reasonable product prices and excellent customer service; I recommend them for OEM parts and will continue to do business with them in the future.

Check out the latest 4Runner
5/5

It's the perfect fit for my 2018 4x4 4runner. Although I wish they were silver, you can't really complain for the price. I used a pick from my toolbox to remove the rear cover plates, which made installation a breeze. Although the manual does not specify where the rubber stoppers should be placed, I figured they should be behind the front bar because it is the front bar that receives the most wind pressure.
