The ratchet can be adjusted between 45 and 70 inches. When fully collapsed, it measures 39" in length. I hope this has been of assistance. br>Bert Campbr>Amazon Sales Rigid Hitch
The clamping screw secures the ratcheting mechanism. It appears that one or both ends could be cut if it were removed. Best wishes to you.
It's primarily used to keep items in the back of the truck in place. I do, however, use it on a regular basis to keep coolers weighing 25 to 50 pounds in place. Each one is worth 30 pounds. It'll keep them in place without a hitch. In addition, the lawnmower was secured. It's one of my truck's most valuable tools.
With a spray-in liner on it, it is strong enough to flex the truck's bed sides. It's impossible for it to bend or break, in my opinion.

My truck is a 2016 Ram 1500 Longhorn with a bedliner built in. This bar is extremely useful. It's fantastic once you've figured out how to open, tighten, adjust, and loosen it. It's well-made and can fit just about anywhere in a pickup's bed. The only thing I'm not sure about is how long I'll be alive. br>br>Updatebr>This cargo bar broke a couple of months after I got it. It's fine for light-weight items, but that's about it. I have some five gallon buckets that slide into the bar because I transport paint in the bed of my truck. Even though they only slid about 10 inches, it was enough to bend the bar and render it useless. I hope this has been of assistance.

I've only recently discovered this. The newer Chevys have a 2 or 3 inch wider interior bed. I attempted to install it, but it was two inches too short, hitting both sides of the bed. My stomach sank as I realized what had happened. I have one of these without the ratchet that is probably 20 years old and still works (a testament to the brand), but I wanted one that was nicer, newer, and not rusted. I haven't yet checked to see if the old one is compatible with my truck. / Aside from that, the quality and construction are excellent, which is why I gave it five stars.
"Well, this would be a nice thing to have," I thought when I first bought it. After having it for a while, I've been pleasantly surprised by how versatile it can be when used for purposes other than simply moving from side to side in bed. It's sturdy enough to support up to 50 pounds of weight at any given point on the bar. It could probably hold even more, but I haven't tried it with anything heavier. (I hung buckets from the studs in an old hallway, and it worked perfectly. ) So far, it hasn't given me any problems, and I've grown to appreciate it. br>br>What the description doesn't tell you is that the ends are actually on a swivel, making it very easy to maneuver into tight spaces when storing it, such as behind air tanks in a tool box.
As we travel through the winding mountain roads, this bar has proven to be an invaluable tool in keeping the truck's bed tightly packed and items from slipping and sliding. It's simple, easy, and a perfect tool for what it promises, so I can use it even if my husband isn't present. If you're looking for a way to protect your cargo, I highly recommend this product.
This makes me very happy! This is exactly what I've been looking for to hold my cargo in the back of my truck. I even used it to drive 15 miles on the freeway carrying small flowers from Home Depot. It was perfect now that it had been patched and pushed back; not a single flower had been harmed. Sturdy, strong, and simple to store. I would strongly suggest it!.
When I go to that store, I place the top one about a foot closer to the tailgate than the lower one to keep my water jugs in place. The other provides more storage space while allowing me to reach groceries and other items without having to stretch too far. br>I also like the smaller feet, as the Harbor Freight ones I have are about 6" tall and difficult to fit securely in/around the wheel well spaces. This is a problem for me because my truck is small. Even with the jack pressure raised, they worked but moved/fell off. The Keepers, on the other hand, do not have this problem. I strongly advise you to buy this book.
This is a very light duty item that should not be used to carry heavy loads. I read the reviews and waited for the price to drop below $25 before purchasing it. It might work for me in the front of my RAM bed, under the tonneau cover, to hold items I don't use very often. The ratchet system is clumsy, stiff, and difficult to work with. It requires two hands to operate, and even then, a few expletives are required to get it in place. Mine will only be moved a few times after it has been installed. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but it's a good deal for the money. If you're looking for something to use on a daily basis and/or to hold heavy loads in place, look elsewhere.
