Questions & Answers

Does it rust? I keep one in my truck and my previous one rusted, so I'm willing to pay a little more for a better cargo bar. ?

I've had mine for two years in the back of my truck, and I live near the water. There is some rust, but only where it has been scratched. Even after all these years, it still looks and functions beautifully.

Stupid query - How do you know when it's tight enough to prevent the pickup box from warping with all that leverage?

It's a bit hit-or-miss situation. Mine is set so that it slightly depresses the box wall and cannot be pulled out. I tighten it one notch if it moves when I pull on it. If you can't get it free, mark the extended side with a sharpie pen so you can index it when you need to remove and replace it.

Is it possible to use a bed liner with this?

If it's a spray-on liner, it'll last a long time. A drop in, on the other hand, may not work as well because it relies on tension against the bedsides.

This is a bar for men who like to hang out with other men
5/5

So I bought one of those shoddy ratchet bars, which held together but was flimsy and useless. So I saw this one for a little bit more money. I enjoy reading the negative reviews and noticed that many people complained that it was difficult to put in place, that they couldn't adjust it properly, that it was either too tight or too loose, and so on. All I can say is don't listen to all that nonsense unless you're very weak or have very poor coordination. I literally just came in from the first time I installed this bar, which took me no more than 30 seconds. It had been incredibly simple. I simply let go of the handle, slid it out until there was a small gap, pushed the left side against the bed with my left hand, and pulled the handle with my right. That's it, I'm done. I don't see why this should be a chore if you consistently eyeball a small space on one side. So far, I've only used it once, but I can already tell it's a million times better than the other flimsy bar. I spent a lot of time fiddling with the flimsy bar because it wouldn't stay tight and the ratchet would just pop up and out. br>br>Creative+ paraphrase: Update after two months: This is an incredible bar. It's been moved from the front to the back, and it's been removed. Put everything back in its place after you've loaded it. It is simple to work with. It's tough as nails and won't let you down. It's simple to press the bar against one wall, leave a small gap on the other side, and then flip the bar down. I'm not sure why people are having trouble with this.

Most likely the best cargo stabilizer bar available
5/5

Except for the rubber pads, which are molded completely around metal supports, this is a true Heavy Duty Cargo Stabilizer Bar made entirely of metal. Each pad rotates freely on a pivot bolt, and the rack (geared horizontal section) is also made of heavy-duty metal, with its terminus firmly through-bolted. attached to the inner tube by bolts The small silver "lever" on the side of the housing that holds the geared handle is actually a spring-loaded mechanism. When the handle is secured, a loaded "catch" keeps it from moving. The inner tube appears to be coated with a translucent gold colored coating, which could be used to make it corrosion resistant. The outer tube and rack are painted black, and while the rack and handle assembly do not appear to be powder coated, they appear to be in good condition. Powder coating is visible on the outer tube. Is your truck bed going to be harmed as a result of this? Once latched, this bed can handle a maximum width of 59 inches. If your bed is narrower than 1/2 inch, the answer to your question is unmistakably yes. If you aren't paying attention and just use brute force, this unit has the potential to force the sides outward. Once a tooth is selected, the inner tube will travel 1-inch. During the full-body workout, 1/8 inch is pushed outward. The process of engagement/lever capture As a result, divide this by two to get the deflection toward each side wall, which is 9/16 inch. With each "tooth" you move the inner bar inward, the total length decreases by 1/4 inch. So, if your bed width is 64 inches and you extend the bar to 64 inches before closing the handle, the total length installed will be 65 inches. a fraction of an inch When the inner bar is moved inward to catch the next tooth, the total length of the engaged teeth is reduced to 64 millimeters. 7/8 inch, 1 inch, 1 inch, 1 inch, 1 inch, 1 inch, 1 inch, 1 As a result, you can alter the amount of tension you apply to the sidewalls of your bed. When using this bar for the first time, I recommend having someone assist you. Install it in one of the desired locations in the bed, with enough tension to keep the bar firmly in place. Then, while it's being put in place, take the following measurements: 1- 1/8 inch from the end of the floating portion of the toothed rack (the part that floats above the outer tube) and wrap one wrap around the outer tube with colored vinyl electrical tape so that the tape's edge is aligned with the aforementioned measurement. Release the handle and slowly swing the bar open to check the tape's proper placement; the end of the rack should line up with the tape's edge as the bar shortens. Try again if it doesn't work the first time. Simply slide out the inner tube until the end of the rack aligns with the edge of the tape and close the handle for subsequent uses. This process can be repeated for as many fit locations as you want. It's a little awkward for one person to install due to its weight, but it can be done; the key is to find its balance point with length about where it's needed, lift it into place, and secure the handle.

I tried to find a cargo bar locally, but they were all too short (maximum of 70") to fit the width of my 2020 Silverado bed, which is about 72"
5/5

This cargo bar is much nicer! It's beefier and more substantial, and it's the perfect fit. It doesn't slip once it's set up correctly, but I do have a spray-on version. The grip is greatly improved by the bed liner. I set my bar low and near the tailgate to transport groceries, so I can't comment on how well it holds heavy items, but when I wiggle it, it feels very sturdy. br>br>Note on installation: It's not possible to set it to the width and then ratchet it down because the bed walls will be pushed out too far. Before ratcheting it down, make sure the bar's ends don't touch the bed's sides. It may take some trial and error, but once you've got it right, you can mark the location for future re-use. making the installation process go more smoothly.

The 3rd generation Tacoma is compatible with this product
5/5

In my 2017 Tacoma short bed, the compact model is ideal. According to some reviews, if the ratchet is forced, it can crack the bed liners. To allow enough room for the final latching, you must ensure that the teeth are properly positioned. It will find the right gear tooth sweet spot if you are gentle with it. I also bought the add-on divider, but I'm going to return it because it's too long and takes up too much room for smaller items like propane tanks and water bottles. Overall, the bar is very heavy duty and stays in place when cranked down to the right pressure, so I recommend getting a bed mat to help with items sliding from side to side. I would strongly suggest it.

With heavy loads, this vehicle is fantastic on or off the road
5/5

To keep cargo in place in my truck, I've used everything from 2x4s to 4x4s, as well as a half-dozen different discount bobs truck bars. I volunteer in search and rescue, so I'm used to hauling generators and other specialized equipment out to the staging area or rescue site, and this raises the bar for everything else so far. It's made of thick, high-quality steel that can withstand hundreds of pounds slamming against it as you drive off-road. It keeps everything as secure as possible on the highway. If you're on the fence about getting one, this is the one to get because it's designed for both work and play.
