Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use these to mount two kayaks on top of my explorer?

With these, I'll be able to transport two kayaks in my 2017 Explorer. It does, however, depend on the type of kayak racks you have. I use Malone kayak holders and loading system, and I can easily fit two kayaks on these cross bars. They're sitting on their sides, bottom to top, at a slight angle. I hope this information is useful. I invested a significant amount of time in determining the best path for me.

Because you can't loop anything underneath or around the side rails, what is the best roof storage bag to use with these crossbars on a 2017 Explorer?

Once you've attached the bars, you're ready to go. Sears provided me with a hard-top cargo carrier. The carrier is secured to the roof rack with brackets. It held a lot of my belongings and freed up a lot of space inside while I was traveling.

I'm missing a couple of bolts. How do I know what size bokts I need to order?

Brightlines has excellent customer service.br>Contact them today.

Are they compatible with a Volkswagen Tiguan from 2016 or 2017?

The Explorer is the only vehicle that the crossbars will fit.

On a 2017 Explorer Limited with a moon roof, it fits perfectly
5/5

It took me 15 minutes to set up. To install, there are three places on the rails that need to be covered. The one in the front goes in the front, and the one in the back goes in the farthest back. To remove the factor plugs, you'll need a star bit, and don't tighten one side until the bolts on both sides are in place.

Bars are excellent
5/5

Service is much better! This set of cross bars was purchased for an XCargo 20 (one of, if not the largest cargo carrier on the market). Given that the box itself was probably already 20 pounds, I was a little concerned about the "100lb" limit. We packed it full, drove it across the country for 22 hours, and had no problems with these bars. At speeds of 75 mph, they never showed any signs of being overloaded (I didn't measure, but it had to be close). They fit perfectly and took about 15 minutes to install (the factory allen wrench only allows you to turn a quarter turn at a time, so it takes a long time; grab a cordless drill and you can have these on in 5 minutes). One of the screws came with a broken bit or something left over from a rock washer that they ran them through, which was a problem for me. I couldn't tighten it because it was wedged in there. I notified the seller, and they sent out a replacement the next day without even seeing a picture (see attachment). It doesn't get any better than that in terms of customer service!.

Parts are in the wrong place
4/5

To begin, I used the star bit to remove the temporary screws (which I couldn't remove with the wrench that came with the kit). 2 After reading other reviews, I bought a $3 set of hex head bits for my drill and installed the bars in 5 minutes. 3 Shame on you guys; the hex head wrench did not fit the adjustment screws; fortunately, I had a hex head set and was able to find the correct size. 4 Pay attention to these buyers. For the back one, loosen the adj screws, pull it out, and screw in the four screws into the bar. THEN wrap a piece of tape around the bar, remove it, tighten the adjustment screws, and reinstall. On adjustment B, there are incorrect hex heads. After installation, you must not tighten the adjustment screws or the top of your explorer will be scratched. Get a hex head set for your drill or screws diver to save yourself half an hour and a lot of swearing. Overall, it's a better deal than spending $200 on an OEM Ford part.

The same as OEM
5/5

This product took ten minutes to install. With ease, 15 minutes. It's clearly labeled to let you know which way is up and which way is back. The crossbars are made of metal, while the brackets are made of hard plastic. I didn't notice any cracks in the plastic after tightening them down because there wasn't enough torque or pressure applied. I'll have to wait and see if there are any leaks since it's only been a week since the last rain, but it appears to be holding up so far. If my concerns grow, I might go back and tape the Allen bolts. The plastic Torx bolts, on the other hand, did not leak, so we'll have to wait and see. The bars themselves are thinner and more aerodynamic than previous ones I've owned, such as those from Volkswagen, and should produce less wind noise while also fitting most attachments.

On the 2018 Explorer, it does not fit all positions! This set of bars is incorrectly sized for a 2018 Ford Explorer
3/5

The front bar is easily adjustable and fits comfortably in the front position. The Ford Explorer, on the other hand, has two back bar positions. The rear bar does not fit in the position closest to the front, even after it has been adjusted. A 28-inch spread is approximately. It will only fit in the far back, which is about 38 to 39 inches wide. Because the car top carrier I have will only fit a 28-inch spread, these are useless for that use. Before you go out and buy something, make sure you know how much space you'll need for whatever you're mounting. I can't comment on their durability because I haven't had the opportunity to use them.

Junk - The brackets are made of flimsy, low-cost plastic! They're almost a carbon copy of the OEM model
3/5

The issue is that the plastic on the ends of each bar and mounting bracket is quite flimsy - The bolts are literally screwed into the mounts, which are made of plastic. Just leaning on them with some of my weight flexes the whole thing, and after a few hours in the sun, I wouldn't trust thee brackets with any real weight without them cracking. I wouldn't trust a surfboard up there at speed; these won't hold much more than a bike or two, or a pair of skis/snowboards. With a rooftop carrier, kayak, or tent, you're definitely not safe. It's kind of pointless - beware.

High- The product is of good quality and is simple to install
5/5

The product was delivered two days after I placed my order. It took less than half an hour to install on my 2017 Explorer Sport. Threaded "snap caps" are included with the roof rails to cover the holes where the cross rails attach. They have a Torx (star) head that is easy to start with a T30 bit. They're a little fiddly if you don't have that, but it's not a major issue. Pay special attention to which rail is which, as the back is slightly longer, and which side faces forward, as these are both clearly marked by the manufacturer. I installed the rails in reverse order, starting with the back one. The vast majority of both are available. It has no effect on the "shark-like" positions. a "fin" antenna in any way. This is a nice product that appears to be at least as high-quality as the others I've seen. Quality comparable to that of the Ford factory, but at a significant savings.

Although the product is excellent, the instructions are a little hazy
5/5

These crossbars were purchased to go with a cargo carrier that I had purchased a few weeks prior. When I tried to install the rear cross bar, it would only fit in the backmost position, despite the fact that all of the pictures with this product show it in the middle position. After dismantling them and preparing to return them, I discovered that the rear cross bar is adjustable. The middle position was perfectly fitted after adjusting the bracket outward. When I returned to the instructions, I noticed a footnote stating that the underside of the bracket (where this adjustment is made) must be tightened. br>br>Overall, I'm very pleased with this product now that I've adjusted it to fit the role I require.
