Directions, on the other hand, are useless. Installing it is a breeze, and it is extremely durable. The instructions, on the other hand, are nearly useless, not even mentioning what to do with half of the pieces. Even if they aren't mentioned in the instructions, use the washers and lock washers that are provided. As shown in the image I uploaded, apply one of each to each of the smaller bolts. The rubber inserts that go between the rack and your car's rails are also not mentioned in the instructions. However, once you've figured out all of that, the installation is very simple and can be completed by anyone; you don't need to be mechanically inclined or have any prior experience. Installing in the shade will prevent your roof from burning your hands, as mine did (I was too impatient to wait and move my car).
Because the posting title states these are rated for 260lbs, when most others I've seen are only about 150lbs, I paid a little more and waited a little longer than I could have had them the next day. Upon installation, I discovered that I had been duped, as these are only rated for 160 pounds.
The quality of this product is far superior to that of the competition. The thoughtful engineering, excellent build quality, perfect fit, and beautiful finish make them a true standout, and they're half the price of the genuine Toyota bars. The instructions are simple and straightforward, and they are written in plain English. The parts are all clearly labeled, making assembly a breeze. Yes, the arrows on the rubber gaskets point to the back of the vehicle, but each gasket is also labeled (molded into the rubber) with its proper vehicle location. In the end, there were no problems with the installation. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the Amazon listing reads "Unavailable," don't be discouraged. The seller is trustworthy, so don't expect them to sell something they don't have; instead, wait for it to become available and then jump on it. That is exactly what I did, and I am extremely grateful for it!.
This product was simple to put together, came with all necessary tools, and all parts were clearly labeled for which part of the car they should be attached to. I'd installed roof racks on other vehicles before, so I had a good idea of what to expect. The roof racks were sturdy enough to hold a roof box for a long journey, and they looked factory-fresh. ish. The OEM/Toyota bars aren't worth the extra money, especially if you're only going to use them once in a while. They're simple enough to take apart (especially once assembled), and it only takes a few minutes. My only gripes are as follows: br>br>
- The written instructions are poorly written/translated and largely ineffective. Other companies have largely abandoned written documentation in favor of installation videos for these products, which can be far more effective.
- If the company insists on using written documentation, I strongly advise them to hire a translator who is either a native English speaker or has spent enough time in an English-speaking country to be effectively bilingual and fluent in the language. There are translation bureaus that specialize in this type of work and provide high-quality translations, as far as I'm aware. It has the potential to help what appears to be a very cost-effective and well-designed product go the extra mile to be truly exceptional.
- The covers for the feet that attach to the roof can be a pain to put on and take off. The provided locks could be made a little more forgiving in terms of tolerance, or the locks could simply be replaced with a bolt or screw (ideally of the same dimensions as the provided wrenches). I'm not sure the locks are worth anything, and they're likely more expensive than the locks.
I just installed these bars because I have too much luggage for a long trip home over the holidays, and I decided to get the cross bars so I could use a thule on my 2019 Rav4 xle. br>br>All of the other reviews describing the detailed packaging and clear instructions are correct; it took me 30 minutes (5'3, 26 years old) to complete. o,) for Rav4 installation The crossbar key covers in plastic are my biggest gripe. I can easily separate the seams from the rest of the bar, which means that if someone was determined to remove the cover, they could do so without causing any damage to the lock. br>The only thing I see as a plus is that the metal key mechanism would probably hold together even if the casing didn't. Let's hope you're not robbed by someone who knows how to pick locks. Because it's a simple pressure-fit key mechanism, just buy them knowing that a determined person with a screwdriver will be able to get into it. br>br>However, these are less expensive than OEM bars, and the metal crossbar is sturdy enough that I have no reservations about loading it to 160 pounds and trusting it. Purchase from a reputable store. discretion based on knowledge It does what I need it to do, and I can make sure my car and luggage are safe while I'm not in it, so I'm giving it four stars. 5 stars. br>br>Once I've completed my trip, I'll update this if my rating changes or if anything goes wrong.
The rack locks are real keys, which I really like. br>br>My only reservation is with the installation procedure. Because the packaging is labeled, it's simple to figure out which part goes where, but the washers for the screws may be confusing. The washers must be used for each screw, but this is not stated in the installation instructions. That was only after I noticed that there were actual washers included that I realized what was going on. br>br>But, aside from that, it was simple to put together, and I'm hoping it won't rust because it says it won't. material made of rust This is something I would recommend to anyone looking for vehicle racks. It's also a lot less expensive than the OEMs!.
