When you put them on, they look great and can support your weight without bending. They attach to the frame using mounting points near the front and rear tires, with the curved end of the armor bar facing the rear tire and the triangular section facing the front tire, as shown in the product image, to avoid looking like the first guy's setup. I also used a jack stand to prop up one side while I worked on the other; unfortunately, the driver's side - The side armor bar had been bent a little too far in, and it took a lot of extra work to align it with the frame bolts. A 6" cast iron clamp was ultimately used to secure that side. The clamp's one end was secured to a welded suspension mount and the other to the bars frame mount. The end result of all of this effort can be seen in the photos. I'm about 270 pounds, and these bars don't seem to mind if I stand on them. In terms of children, my seven-year-old daughter now has no trouble getting into the back seat. The bars' powder coating isn't very durable. I haven't attempted any rock crawling or anything extreme since the install because the outer layer cracked right off where it contacted the jack stand. This wasn't a forceful hit on the jack stand with the bar, this was simply lowering the side armor bar on to the jack stand. I've taken my Jeep off the beaten path on minor trails and around town. I've noticed that with the extra weight on the sides, there's a little more side-to-side movement. When turning, there is some side body movement, which is to be expected. In general, I'm pleased with the bars that have been installed. The star was taken away because one side was misaligned and the powder coat quality was questionable. I believe the alignment issue I was having could be resolved with a little more QC.
I'm not sure how this one made it past the engineering stage, because it's an awful design. I put them on and immediately realized that I had received the incorrect items in the package. I contacted Rugged Ridge and requested an exchange (because I live in the same town as their warehouse), but the new ones were identical to the old ones. br>br>First and foremost, don't expect them to be useful for the back doors, as the step portion stops just in front of them. I have two kids who require a step to enter and there isn't one, despite the fact that it is supposed to be for the 4-year-olds. door. br>br>On top of that, the front of the rockers go under the front fender to achieve- Nothing, to be precise. Why don't you move the bar mounts back, RR, so the non-smokers have a better view of the action? Will the rocker's used area shift to make room for the back doors? Finally, there's this strange angle flare where the front of the rocker is wider than the stock fender flare, but it tapers as you get closer to the back and ends up being a few inches away from the vehicle. It simply appears to be a disaster. Come on, Rugged Ridge, you're better than this. Take these off the market and fix your drawings. br>br>These are going to be a big P. to return to Amazon in a timely manner grrr. I'll see what I can do about getting some photos up. They get two stars because they are reliable, but the poor design is unforgivable.
My 2010 Rubicon 4 door jeep now has a fantastic accessory. These rails were a perfect fit for the stock "rock sliders. " Now I'm protected twice as well.
They're well-made and sturdy. One thing to keep in mind is that if you live in a snowy area, the steps will become compacted. If you don't knock it off, it'll become solid ice.
On my 2015 JKUR, the bolt holes don't quite line up. It would be a lot nicer if I didn't have to use so much duct tape to keep it in place.
The mounting brackets arrived bent, causing the holes to be WAY off, rendering these unmountable on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. A complete let down. I'm about to call Rugged Ridge to see if they can send me some replacements.
It was an excellent fit! It appears to be fantastic!.
There have been no problems with the quality so far. It looks fantastic on my 2011 JKU.
