1 gallon of undercoat for spray gun

Questions & Answers

Is it soft, like some of the previous cheap undercoatings, or does it harden?

It is not difficult for me - It should be hard in order to avoid cracking. It's also not very soft to the touch, but it's a good product for the money!

What should I use to thin it out?

It is possible to use mineral spirits or enamel reducer. Acetone and lacquer thinner will eat away at the paint, so don't use them.

Is this coating permanent, or do you have to reapply it every year?

Has lasted for 4 years with only minor peeling due to improper cleaning prior to application.

Will there be a fire hazard if this stuff is sprayed on or near the exhaust or engine?

I don't believe this product is flammable; I've used it to undercoat car frames and the underbody inches from where the exhaust pipes are mounted with no problems.

Selected User Reviews For Rusfre Automotive Spray-on Rubberized Undercoating Material, 1-Gallon Part Rus-1020f6

Great undercoating, but make sure you follow my advice and buy a hooded tyvek painter suit
5/5

Duct tape nitrile gloves to your arms. Painter balaklava and tyvek shoe covers are available for purchase. When you're finished, toss them all in the trash. Put on a full face shield and a half-face respirator. With every speck of this stuff on your skin, you're going to fight. Use non- cotton balls and acetone nail polish remover br>br>I used six gallons of paint to completely cover the underside of an excursion. Ignore any reviews that claim a full-size truck uses one gallon of gas. They are not fully coating it to prevent rust, and the rotors and calipers are covered in plastic bags. Tape off any areas that you don't want to be covered. I don't believe you'll be cautious. That isn't how it works. Also, stick to the recipe's instructions and don't thin it out. It'll appear thick, and you'll think there's no way it'll flow. It's ready to drink right out of the bottle. Allow the bottle to warm up and stay warm by placing it near a heat vent or in front of a heater for a few hours. To shoot it, I used an Amazon $15 undercoat gun with a 50 psig. Depending on the temperature, drying / curing can take up to a week.

It's the real deal! Buy It! I applied it to the frame and suspension parts of my truck with an old paint brush, and it worked perfectly! It's impossible to say how long it'll last, but it went on without a hitch; obviously, wear gloves and clothes that you don't mind getting ruined
5/5

br>It's easy to clean up with laquer thinner, so don't use it to spray it. When you use a paint brush to apply this stuff, it goes a long way. I brushed it on instead of spraying it because I didn't want to use a sprayer. But, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but It'll make you happy.

Great stuff that stays soft and disolves well when thinned with mineral spirits for spraying inside frame rails and other tight spaces
5/5

Don't get just one gallon for your car; I used over 2 gallons on a Ford Focus and it worked perfectly. If you're buying a new four-door car, make sure you get 2 or 3 gallons of gas. I thinned it with mineral spirits and used a hose I made myself. head of spray br>br>I made my spray tube out of a 3/8" ID vinyl tube that I heated on one end and melted flat- closed. Then I heated a small nail and used it to poke/melt holes in the flattened end at various angles (pattern like a "5" on a dice") on both sides, with some poking into the flattened ends as well. It emitted fine mists that were directed into the frame's corners. br>br>Purchase some Tyvek jumpsuits with head coverings. latex gloves on the cheap, and plastic sheeting to cover the area beneath the vehicle Tape the seams on the hood as well. Spray won't get on the finish because of the fenders. To do it right and get the car up as high as possible, pull the inner fender liners and bumpers. I used a gun that I "bought" with this stuff, and it worked great with mods. However, the 3M spray tube (which came with it) was useless because it was far too stiff, kinked easily, and caused air to blow material out of the gun breather hole all over me and my car. Finally, wear a full face shield with a tear-off liner/shield so you can see if there is any overspray on you.

Excellent product! This was purchased to refinish and protect our 16-foot livestock/cattle trailer from rust
5/5

We wire wheeled the surface, sanded it, and then applied a base coat of rust converter. We also painted the outside of the trailer with rust oleum paint and rubberized/undercoated the bottom of the trailer, which is where the gravel hits. We used the product straight from the bottle with the recommended gun (don't use the multidirectional attachment!). As suggested in other reviews, use a portable air compressor set to 110 psi and a disposable suit and face mask. We are only halfway through the application process, but so far we are pleased with the results. I followed my husband with a roller against the tape line to avoid overspray on top of the outside of the trailer, and the product was already drying on a 70 degree day. As a result, it appears that the other reviews for longer dry times were due to the product being thinned. That was not required, and everything went smoothly right out of the box! br>br>When the product was delivered, the containers were well-sealed and cushioned in the box to prevent spills and punctures. It's a sticky mess to have on your hands, but it cleans up easily with gas or paint thinner if you get some on yourself accidentally. Overall, we are pleased with our weekend project (which took a few weeks) and optimistic about the product's durability; we will definitely purchase again in the future!.

This is fantastic
5/5

This was used as an undercoat for a vintage trailer I was working on. Rusfre adhered to everything after I sprayed the frame and plywood subfloor! That's why I went ahead and purchased it. I learned a few things after spraying a large amount: first, I put the bottle in a bucket of hot water to keep it warm while spraying. In addition, I used a 70-psi air pressure. 90 psi. I did wear a Tyvek suit with a respirator and a face shield because this stuff splatters everywhere. The fumes and odor were also helped by several fans. Others complained about getting it off their skin, and while you will get it on no matter how hard you try not to, I found that Goof Off easily removed it without much scrubbing. This is something I would do again.

On the market, the best undercoating
5/5

For the past two decades, I've been using RusFre undercoating. It makes a mess, won't come out of your clothes, and requires some scrubbing to remove, but it works great. In the northeast, I drive tractor trailers, which are constantly exposed to road salt and corrosive de-icers. Six months of the year are colder than the rest of the year. Rust jacking (rust between parts) is a serious issue that, if left unchecked, can lead to component failure. Any time I replace a part, I coat the mating surfaces with RusFre. It eliminates rust jacking virtually 100%, and in the rare cases where it doesn not completely stop It is indestructible and adheres to all surfaces. a factory-made item After less than six years, most of the frame paint on a truck I bought new had rusted and rotted. I sandblasted everything, applied a high-quality rust preventative paint to each part individually, and then re-coated everything with RusFre. After that, it went through five New England winters without rusting.
