Assume the Amazon blurb's description was written by Trump's public relations team. "SOFT AND FLEXIBLE RELIABLE POLISHING OPERATING SYSTEM - The Backing Plate's Soft And Flexible Edge Can More Stably And Consistently Navigate The Curves, Bends, And Contours On Any Car Surface! The last 1/10 of an inch at the edge is the only part of this disc that is flexible. The rest is far too thick to follow a hull's curvature.
5/8/11 YES
It has a diameter of 5/8 inch and 11 threads per inch. I'm not sure what your Goldkin gimmick is all about.
Selected User Reviews For SGCB 5” RO Rotary Flexible Backing Plate, Hoop-and-Loop Face 5/8” Thread PU Soft Backing Pad Used On Rotary Polisher Sander for Sanding Polishing Buffing Finishing
It was perfect for sanding previous coatings off a large deck for a project. However, after three days of use and approximately 14 hours of operation time, the edges of the disk are cracking about 3/4 inch into the disc and appear to be separating after another day or two of full use. Because I'm not a rough user, such products usually last me a long time. However, because 6" is a difficult size to come by (and there are no other options that appear to be more durable), it will not deter me from purchasing again. I wasn't sure how to use the sheerness rating because it wasn't a word I'd use to describe the product.
If you try to get corners with the pad backing plate too close to the surface, you'll almost certainly need an extension kit.
I knew I was getting a backing plate without a centering hole when I bought it, so it's a great piece otherwise; however, since I use pads with a center hole, a hole for centering the pads would be nice.
This is a fantastic replacement for the buffer pad I was using previously.
This is one of the better ones. If you prefer a flat firm surface, get a stiffer intermediate pad. Soft outer edges are good for creeping in on contours; get a stiffer intermediate pad if you prefer a flat firm surface. You get the best of both worlds with this product.
It doesn't get any better than this.
When it comes to paint correction, I usually use an oscillating polisher (Adams Swirl Killer or Flex 3401). However, after using 3M Trizact, a very fine and effective backing plate, I occasionally use my Dewalt rotary to remove wet sand marks.
On my Dewalt cordless drill, it worked perfectly.
