Before the next treatment, I used it on vinyl boat seats. Is it more effective than dishwashing liquid? It does not leave any residue. As a result, I believe it to be true.
Maybe. My room was filthy, but not obnoxious. This system for re-coating was very effective. Boat seats that have been in use for two years still look brand new.

I figured I could save a few bucks by using dish soap. That's not a viable option. The difference is that it does not produce suds, is not slimy, and cleans the surface to allow the paint to adhere. I used it before doing the vinyl prep, and it worked perfectly. I'm glad I made the purchase.
This stuff is incredible. It prepares a plastic or vinyl surface for final finish coating by cleaning, abrading, and sanding it. To achieve a gloss or sheen and promote adhesion, the surface is lightly abraded. It lasts a long time; I used it to do the entire interior of a car and still had enough left over to do a leather chair in my home.
After one application with a scotch pad on a leather project, the leather was clean and ready for the next step in my project.
It cleans and leaves a texture that is ideal for maintaining a strong bond between new and old finishes.
Although I'm not convinced it's required, the vinyl surface was thoroughly cleaned. It's possible that Dawn dish soap will suffice.
Before using the SEM products line's vinyl prep and marine vinyl spray paint, I used this product as a first step in refinishing my discolored boat seats, as recommended by the SEM products line. I'm not sure if it cleaned any better than soap and water, but the abrasive component could have helped.
This is incredible. This was purchased to prepare my vinyl boat seats prior to dyeing. I couldn't believe how well this stuff cleaned the seats; they were so clean that I didn't even need to dye them (which I did). Following the instructions and using a grey scotch pad is recommended; I used a red one and it "pilled" up the vinyl in some areas. This soap, on the other hand, is a good buy; I'm not sure how it works. However, I'm going to get more for the rest of my boat.
SEM products are the best for painting (and resurfacing vinyl seats!!).
