Depending on how much abuse your boots take and how shiny and waterproof you want them to be, conditioning them once a month to once a year is a good idea. Also keep in mind that conditioning boots with mink oil will cause them to darken temporarily until the oil absorbs or wears off. Although I enjoyed the change, it is important to be aware of it. br>br>My only gripe is that one of my cats would not leave my boots alone after I treated them. I believe he mistook himself for a mink hunter. He clawed and bit one of them, causing battle damage to my left boot. My friends say it gives it personality, but I know the truth: My cat isn't the best hunter in the world.

This leather treatment works wonders when it comes to waterproofing leather shoes and hats. It's simple to use a cloth to apply to the leather, and it has a low odor. Simply take some with your cloth, apply it to the leather, rub it in thoroughly, making sure to get into any creases, and wipe away the excess. I usually start with the first shoe and let it sit while I work on the second, giving the first one time to absorb everything. It revitalizes and protects old, dry leather, extending its life significantly. Except for a slight darkening from adding moisture to very dry leather, this oil hasn't darkened any of the items I've used it on. As a precaution, I would apply a small amount of the oil to a spot that isn't easily visible if you're treating expensive items or items to which you have a strong attachment. This product has given me excellent results, and it is a must-have for leather clothing preservation. It's not designed for suede, but I've used it on occasion for suede. It does darken it, but it also helps to preserve leather. Be aware that it dramatically alters the appearance of suede, so if you want to avoid this, use a suede-specific product.

I had hoped that the 6 ounces would be enough. Enough product to treat a pair of Men's size 12 medium height work boots in one container. Six ounces may not appear to be a lot, but once I started working on the first boot and saw how much coverage a small amount could provide, I knew I'd have enough to complete the pair. It's worth noting that these boots were brand new and had never been worn before. br>br>After treating the above-mentioned pair and seeing how nice they turned out, I realized, "Well, I've barely touched the contents of the Mink Oil's 6 ounces," so I grabbed a few pairs of older, well-worn, and dried-out leather boots and got to work. THIS PRODUCT WAS LIKE A DUCK IN WATER WHEN IT COME TO DRY LEATHER! On a thirty-year-old pair of DANNER high top hunting boots, beautiful absorption and coverage restored the boots to "NEW CONDITION"! I'm very pleased with the end result! IN ADDITION, the MINK OIL container is nearly empty! br>br>Up next are my motorcycle boots, which I expect to benefit from the MINK OIL as well. Then I'll take care of my hunting boots, which are WOLVERINE and SOREL. After I finish my boots, I'll treat a few pairs of leather gloves before moving on to my leather holsters and gun cases. THIS STUFF CAN BE APPLIED TO ANY SMOOTH LEATHER! br>br>AND, once all of these products have been treated, I am confident that I will have used less than 3 ounces of the container's 6 ounces! I'm working the product into the seams and stitching with an old "Medium" bristle toothbrush, as well as in a circular motion on larger areas, as directed. IT WORKS EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD! I simply buff the surfaces with a soft cloth after the product has dried overnight, and the results are stunning! br>br>AND MY LEATHER ITEMS ARE NOW WATER AND SNOW RESISTANT! This product is well worth the money, and the 6 ounces will keep you going for a long time. BUY IT!.

I used the mink oil on several pairs of shoes and boots within a few days of receiving it, and it worked well. It goes on like regular paste shoe polish and is very easy to apply. You wipe away any excess after five or ten minutes, as directed. Although I haven't tested it in wet weather, I have every reason to believe that the mink oil will keep water out. Unfortunately, the container top, which is made of extremely thin plastic, cracked when I attempted to replace it. I didn't put much pressure on it, but I knew the mink oil mixture would dry out quickly if the container wasn't completely sealed in Arizona's low humidity. I'll keep using the mink oil for as long as I can, but when I need to replace it, I'll go with a different brand that has better packaging.

To say they were stiff is an understatement. I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair of Thorogood steel toe boots for work. I knew they'd take some time to break in, but after three days, the tongue was causing pain on the tops of my feet, and I was beginning to regret my $250 purchase. Fortunately, I had ordered some mink oil ahead of time, and it arrived while I was at work. They went from stiff and unappealing to soft and comfortable, as if I'd had them on for months. I wiped them down with an old towel, then used an old toothbrush to work it into every stitch before letting each boot sit for about 10 minutes. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but I used a hair dryer to warm up the excess so I could wipe it off and remove all the bits from the eyelets. I thought the heat would help it absorb into the leather, but I'm not sure if it worked. br>br>In short, this stuff worked great and alleviated all of the discomfort associated with breaking in a stiff new pair of boots.
