Questions & Answers

Is this a water-soluble solution?

No, we had several plastic tubs that fit the tools, chain, and other items that we needed to use it on - Pour it on and let it sit for a while; the tubs are fine and haven't been harmed in any way.

What can I spray on a rusted truck frame with a pump sprayer?

The guys I saw applying evapo rust to an old pickup had a small pump and a kids swimming pool. They placed the pool beneath the frame and turned on the pump to circulate the fluid over the part; the next day, they pumped the fluid back into the bucket, washed the part with a hose, and the rust was completely removed. I hope this information is useful.

Has anyone ever succeeded in removing rust from a motorcycle tank? Any tips?

I tried it out on an old Moto Guzzi Ambassador tank and it worked perfectly. If the tank isn't painted, pour in a pint or two of lacquer thinner and 20 or so 1 inch drywall screws, then shake the hell out of it for five minutes, dump in bucket, and repeat until the flush is clean. Allow to dry after a thorough flush with water. Then use this product, which I soaked for 24 hours and found to be satisfactory. It was incredible after 48 hours. Inside the tank, everything appears to be brand new. I hope this has been of assistance.

This is what I'm going to do with galvanized chain. Will this wreak havoc on the still-functioning links?

I've tried EvapoRust on a variety of metals, both coated and uncoated, and it hasn't caused any damage to "good" materials. Rust under coatings like nickel or chrome plate causes the plating to flake off. There hasn't been any damage to the bare metal that I've noticed. However, because I haven't used it on galvanized chain, I can't guarantee that you won't have any problems.

It works fine, but it takes a long time to complete
4/5

It's also prohibitively expensive. Yikes! Okay, I've been trying to get rid of rust for years. It's always a dreadful job to do that. Either a lot of elbow grease sanding, a lot of rust in my nose and lungs from grinding, or a lot of trouble trying to get it off with electricity. a soak in the tub (Not to mention the time, effort, and mess involved - for each of those possibilities )br>br>So, what the hell, I'll give it a shot. I tried a small container of this stuff and found it to be quite tasty. I soaked my small items for a few hours and got nothing! What a colossal squander of cash! Then I tried a few more parts in the hopes of getting them to work overnight. I'd forgotten about them, I'm afraid. I didn't realize they were in there until two days later. I was afraid they'd disintegrated by then, but to my surprise, they were fantastic! They don't have a single speck of rust on them. What had been frozen due to rust was now free to move. Yay! Advantages: br>br> br>* It claims to be odorless, but it stinks. You won't have to worry about a bad odor, but you will need to ventilate. br>* They say you don't need gloves, but if you don't, you'll be doing a lot of washing. br>* They say you can flush it down the toilet, but I'm not going to do that. For that, it's way too expensive. br>* If you're patient, this method works. Normally, I aim for a score of 2. Before I look, the sauce has been in the fridge for three days. Then there was happiness! br>* When it's finished, a wire brush will easily remove the crud. (Yes, you'll still have to scrub it, but it'll be a lot easier this way. ) There isn't any rust flying around to inhale. )br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are some disadvantages to using this product. br>* It claims to be odorless, but it smells - You'll need some fresh air. br>* It's a good idea - BUT VERY SLOWLY. The time passes. br>* They say you can flush it down the toilet, but don't - Unless you strain it first, because there's a lot of rust in there. After you've cleaned your items, there's a lot of crud in there. That can't possibly be good for anyone's pipes, let alone the sewage treatment plant. br>* It removes all the rust, but it also removes the paint, plating, and other finishes if there is even a speck of rust around them. Be aware that it will usually strip it down to bare metal. br>* Scrubbing is still required to remove the loosened crud. Even though it's much easier, you'll still need a scrub brush. br>* Crud returns to its original state, If you miss some, it won't come off easily, and you'll have to wait for it to dry. br>* As soon as the sauce is removed, everything returns to Rust at a breakneck speed. It was insanely fast; I'd never seen anything like it before. You MUST use their Rust Inhibitor (or another brand) as soon as the crud is removed. rinsing it off (and I mean RIGHT NOW - In 5 minutes, no way! br>br>Bottom line: It works, and I use it, but it's very expensive, and their follow-up Rust inhibitor is even more so. I've tried everything I can think of to stop the re-growth of rust, and nothing has worked. Any other method of rusting has failed so far. You're in their clutches, They make a reasonable profit. It's a situation where you have to make a choice between two options. off. I'm not sure it's worth the money if you don't do it on a regular basis; I do it once a week, so avoiding the black lung I'm about to get is worth some money to me; however, if I were only doing it once a month, I'm not sure it's worth the money. I'd keep the money if you were to take it away from me. I need to better conceal my nose.

The three come with a dip basket
5/5

5 gallon capacity; thoroughly clean all parts before using; don't forget to use the included Dip Basket. The 5 gallon size, and only this size, enhances an already excellent product, making it even more useful and convenient. br>br>Also keep in mind - This solution is intended to be used repeatedly until it is depleted, rather than once and then thrown away. Clean all parts to be treated thoroughly, particularly to remove dirt and grease that could foul the bath or prevent the Evapo- Mineral spirits, as well as CRC Brakeleen spray solvent, are effective at keeping rust at bay.

It's an expensive option
5/5

Evapo- Rust is an excellent choice. Here's a Hub that was completely devoid of paint and in desperate need of repair. Before and after photos are shown. In terms of value, I believe the product is on the pricey side; I'd like to be able to have more than the three options available. 5 Gallon. I would have gone with the 25 gallon plastic drums if they had been available (at a lower cost per gallon). br>br>How I Made Use of Evapo- Rust. br>br>I started by soaking the Hub for 24 hours in mineral spirits in a 2. Bucket holds 5 gallons. After rinsing the hub with distilled water in a parts cleaner, I dried it with compressed air. I put the entire hub into the 3. after it was dry and free of loose material. I used a 5 gallon bucket and let it sit for 48 hours (with the lid closed)br>The end result is shown in the second picture; I'm happy with the results and have experimented with other items using the very limited 3. br>br>I don't recommend using this in any type of spay on application because it runs easily and dries, wasting the liquid. br>br>I'm impressed with how reusable the product is, though I think that has to do with me cleaning everything in spirits first. br>br>I don't recommend using this in any type of spay on application because it runs easily and dries, wasting the liquid. It's great for soaking. This liquid is going to go away. As much as possible, keep the lid closed. I used a tap to install a ball valve into the lid because I was concerned about air buildup during the chemical reaction process. Because the reaction (or temperature change) causes a small amount of pressure to build up, it's better to be safe than sorry.

It's really good! It's what I use to clean the rust off of the gas tanks on my motorcycles
5/5

Step: br>1) install a bunch of nuts, bolts, and screws, wrap the tank in a shipping blanket and duct tape it tight, throw it in the dryer, and air dry for 30 minutes or sobr>2) shake out all the crud and rinse it out, water is fine. br>3) use the electrolytic rust removal procedure (for extremely bad tanks). (Google it) it'll take a whilebr>4) clean out the tank again, the water is fine. br>5) plug tank back up and fill with this magical substance. Allow a few days to pass before making a decision. If necessary, repeat the process.
6) rinse out with acetone or 99% alcohol rinse out with acetone or 99% alcohol rinse out with acetone or If you use water, it will rust quickly, making you feel stupid (like I did). br>7) Allow to dry before sealing with Casewell tank sealer (my personal favorite). The tank will now outlast your grandchildren.

This product is amazing; I've used it ten times or more and it never ceases to amaze me at how well it removes rust and corrosion from metal parts and tools without the use of harsh chemicals or a strong odor
5/5

I always clean and degrease the metal parts or tools first, soaking them for 12 to 24 hours, then rinsing them and either preparing them for painting or, in the case of tools, properly re-sharpening them. It's ready to go once you've lubed them up. This is a fantastic product that delivers on its promises. And, best of all, it's made in the United States.

That's right - magic juice
5/5

It's what I refer to it as: my bucket of magic juice. I had a lot of friends tell me that I should try Evapo- It uses iron chelation to remove rust, not acid, so it does no damage to parts, so I finally bought it and have run tons of bolts, screws, brackets, and other items through it for my restoration project. br>br>I use a degreaser, such as liquid soap, to scrub the parts in general, then place them in the basket and leave them overnight. After that, I use cool water and a soft brush to rinse it - Before painting, I used a heat gun to dry it out. br>br>However, I discovered that galvanized metal is not to be run through it. It ate most of the galvanizing off of some old headlight buckets that I put in.
