It was a waste of $11. My excitement increased when I received a set of large sized filler and bondo spreaders for use on large areas of filler. When finished with the spreader, I cleaned it right away as I have done with every one I have owned over the past three decades. When I tried to wipe it down with lacquer thinner, this garbage spreader literally started to melt on where I was wiping it. As the plastic reacted with the solvent, the solvent ate away at the spreader and caused it to disintegrate. For automotive applications, where they'll need to be cleaned with solvents like lacquer thinner, these are of no use. It's not my experience, but I expect they would be wiped down with acetone the same way. Also, they are fairly stiff, with little or no flexibility, and this is also not good for them Having said that, I couldn't have stood this if the cleaner didn't melt the wheels as it was cleaned. Invest time and money in something that will last. In an ideal world I would be returning the remaining spreader I cannot or won't waste my time using but to return them postage and shipping costs would have been too expensive so that would only leave me with $11 for a product that won't do what I paid for it to.
The spreaders came with what appeared to be a permanent bow. Aside from that, the application edge that is used for finishing leaves a burr in the pass because the burr is not cut clean. I found they did a good job of spreading paint for the first few coats, but as I got closer to the last coat, I needed to switch to a different brand.
It is rigid and does not flex much. The product is not solvent-resistant. The bondo surface melted when the lacquer thinner was used to remove it. It's amazing how effective this is for body filler.
Some 3M ones have that kind of flex or ability to cup them. There's something about these that is just a little too rigid in comparison to the two others. While I do not know which is better for you, I've already been spoiled by them and will have to go back to 3M's at Home Depot.
They are ok for mixing body filler, but I would very much prefer more flexibility for panels containing compound curves such as crowns (so that pressure on the spreader will actually conform to the shape). If the surface is flat, they work well. Now you know they're the flexible kind, since they look just like them in the photos.
It is a great product, however it is very still so you can only apply it straight/flat. Using lacquer thinner for plastic cleaning almost melts the plastic, but does not affect the integrity of the.
Despite the spreaders being a bit stiff, they are still well worth using. Depending on the area that needs to be repaired, this may or may not be a bad thing. Getting a good grip is more difficult on curvy surfaces.
