This product prevents air leakage between torqued surfaces as it is anaerobic in nature. My experience with it has been good on gear cases and transmissions used with power equipment. You might be able to make it work on your dipstick, provided it is securely attached to the base. It may be a better idea to use JB weld on all repairs.
That is something you should address with your gas company.

As a result of myself doing quite a bit of research, I decided to try it. Despite looking for a replacement, my Speedaire air compressor still leaked from the valve plate gasket, and I am unable to find one. Due to high compression and excessive heat, the gasket is exposed to high temperatures. As a replacement for a gasket made from gasket material (which came close to working but kept leaking minutely), I assembled the compressor using this product and it has proven to be flawless A leak is not present. When applying the adhesive, it is critical that both surfaces be extremely clean. Unlike much other products, this product does not harden once it sets up into a thick gel. The cost is a little higher than many other sealants, but it is.
Loctite 515 has been on my workbench for thirty years and continues to be my favorite. A gasket dressing can be applied to it, or you can use it directly. When used in high pressure applications, such as hydraulic or refrigeration systems, it is helpful to seal small pipe thread fittings.
