This set was purchased for my ten-year-old son, who was interested in learning how to play. On YouTube, he searches for beginner videos and watches them. He's already cut up about four - There are five small projects. I must say, I'm quite pleased with how they turned out. This set is ideal for him because it includes everything he'll need to master the techniques, including razor-sharp knives that contribute to his success. What made this purchase even more satisfying was that the company's owner personally thanked us for our purchase in a handwritten letter. If we had any questions or concerns about the product or hobby, he left his contact information with us. It's refreshing to see a company that is concerned about more than just the sale of a product, and I would recommend this beginner set to anyone interested in learning how to carve wood, including children. Excellent craftmanship and a great company that stands behind their product.

On its own, having razor-sharp knives ready to use when they arrive earns high marks. However, it was the owner's follow-up contact that prompted me to give this product five stars. The owner sent me a personal hand written letter thanking me for purchasing his product. He then continued to provide me with several ways to contact him if I was 100% satisfied with the I highly recommend these knives to both experienced and inexperienced carvers, and I intend to purchase Hutsuls knives in the future.

This is possibly the nicest Amazon purchase I've ever made. br>br>The package comes in a lovely little box that holds the entire kit, including safety gloves. br>br>I'm not a whittling expert - I bought it to give my hands a break after working on computers for eight hours a day. However, it appears that this set would appeal to even the most seasoned whittler. br>br>The gloves meet the highest level of the European Standard for Protective Gloves, EN 388, which is a 5. That's fantastic news for older guys like me who don't have the dexterity of a twenty-year-old! br>br>Each blade is shaped and sharpened by hand before being attached to simple but beautiful wood handles. br>br>This is my only gripe - And this is MY issue, not Hutsul's - is that the hook blade appears to be aimed at right-handed people. Because I'm left-handed, it appears that I won't be able to use it effectively. (I'm thinking of contacting the company and requesting a left-handed version. ) version with one hand )br>br>Overall, it's absolutely stunning. It was a delight to unwrap, and I've been using it for the past three evenings to whittle simple ball shapes and, as I mentioned, loosen the cramping from typing on computers all day. p. br>br>p. br>br>p. br>br>p Do not expose the green polishing compound to direct sunlight. A nice box, gloves, and a roll of knives were among the items I received. The edge nicks and flaws on the sloyd knife are visible. A manufacturing flaw exists on the blade itself. a big scratch br>The detail knife's tip is broken, but more importantly - it's not sharp. Because the edge line isn't straight but concave, it's less useful for chipping and detailing. br>There are some poorly sewn lines on the tool roll itself. br>The handles are made of raw wood that has not been finished. It's not exactly cozy. br>The spoon knife appears to be in good condition, with a good leather strop, added green polishing compound, and metal that is hard enough to cut wood. br>The gloves are medium in size and snugly fit me. Overall, I believe this set is unsuitable for use. A quick search on Amazon or Alix will turn up dozens of similar sets, each with its own branding. br>It goes without saying that Amazon refunded me in full for this purchase. Now I've placed an order for a three-piece flexcut set.

I'm going to tell it like it is. This was purchased for my 8-year-old son so that he could begin carving with his grandfather online. (Disclaimer: This is a work in progress. ) For many years, my son has worked with carpentry tools. Sharp objects aren't a big deal. I have more faith in him than I do in the majority of adults. I expected them to be "good enough" for him to begin with. They were a lot better than "good enough. " br>br>I was pleasantly surprised by their sturdy construction and ability to maintain an edge. I tried them out for a few minutes before ordering a second set for myself. br>br>I really like the packaging. They come in a tool pouch, so they're easy to throw in a bag, toolbox, or the pocket of my cargo shorts. br>br>After some use, I'll return to see if anything has changed.

This is the very first knife carving set I've ever purchased. However, they are my favorites. I've only used the chip knife so far, but it feels great in my hands. I sharpened the chip knife with fine grit sand paper after it came out of the box. The other two knives aren't as well-knifed as the first two. The round bowl carving knife, in particular, is not very sharp. It's impossible for me to cut anything with it. However, regardless of which knife you purchase, you will need to sharpen it at some point, so plan on spending about $7 on a pack of fine grit sand paper. To learn how to sharpen knives, all you have to do is watch YouTube videos.
