There are no instructions or drawings included for how the sand paper is supposed to fit into a 1/4" slot and be fitted with a square stick press over the paper after it has been inserted. Despite my best efforts, it did not work in 20 minutes. With the resources I have available, I think it is possible for me to modify this gizmo to use coarse and fine grinding compound and toss the sand paper. I have been sharpening knives without this device for 15 years. I wish you the best of luck if you're a beginner. Frustration is the only way to get through this.

I found this to be an excellent addition to my arsenal of carving tools. This construction was very well done, and it works like a charm. The product I purchased and used gave me an A on all levels of satisfaction. My only recommendation would be to improve the stick sandpaper hold downs that slide in. there should be some type of rubber coating or even rubber slide ins to grip to and stay in place in the It would get an A+ if this improvement was made.
