Questions & Answers
The properties of a silicone baking mat are similar to those of the RANGER craft mat, but it all depends on the mat's intended use. If this is going to be used for crafting, the two mats will have different properties and will most likely be used for different things. The RANGER mat is ideal for inking techniques, as it makes it very easy to transfer ink to paper for cool/interesting effects when using an ink/paint/medium and water. Silicone mats have a different reaction. Water will still bead up, but moving and mixing your medium will be difficult, and you will most likely end up with a sticky mess. In my experience, you won't be able to achieve the same effects as you would on the RANGER mat. So, while silicone mats will hold up better and last much longer than a RANGER mat (you never want to crease your RANGER mat, I messed up my first one because I tossed it around and it got all crinkle-y), RANGER mats will hold up better and last much longer. y on me, and I had to replace it, so don't make the same mistake I did! But, honestly, if you keep it flat and don't use nail polish remover on it, it'll last a long time! You could keep your mat in excellent condition and it would theoretically last as long as a silicone mat and be just as reusable. Both mats are heat resistant; however, neither can be used as a cutting surface, and the glue/resin on both mats should peel off. So, if all you need is something to protect your desk/work surface from heat, glue guns, and the like, a silicone mat is the way to go. But if you want something for inks, etc., or a mat to use for techniques that are specifically designed to be used with the RANGER craft mat (aka a teflon mat), I'd go with RANGER every time. Oh, AND IF YOU DO DECIDE TO GET A RANGER CRAFT MAT, MAKE SURE IT IS ACTUALLY MADE BY RANGER (the RANGER ones are the best I've used/ ) Unless you want to order an off brand mat (you can get multiple off brand mats for the same price as a RANGER mat, but you'll get 2 or 3 mats instead of just one RANGER mat) so you don't have to worry as much about keeping the mat "nice," and you can just toss it when it becomes too damaged (and grab another one). It should work out fine in either case; this is just my two cents, but I hope it helps!
This sheet is extremely thin, strong, and only about 1/8" thick. It appeals to me. It is easy to clean with a baby wipe, and glue does not adhere to it.
This item is incredibly thin. It also appears to stay in place while crafting, but it isn't non-slip.
It's not a RANGER product, and it's not packaged like one. If I had to get another, I'd go for the real thing. Mine had a "tear" (which isn't really a tear, but more like the shiny coating was missing and it appears to be a tear, but the surface underneath the coating is actually intact; I'm not sure how to describe it). Just go ahead and purchase the genuine article.

Ranger is not one of them. I bought mine from GreenBoxes2U, and the version I got was made by Sealer Supply. It has a thickness of 3 mL. It will develop tiny little holes in it where the ink will grab and spread through the threads, even if nothing sticks to it. When I used it for the second time, it did the same thing. In the few times I've used it since, more locations have appeared. I'm not a fan of what I've seen so far. I contacted Amazon and the seller, and while I received a full refund with an apology from the seller, who claimed he didn't realize it wasn't the same, it shouldn't be listed under the Ranger sheet. br>br>July 24th Update: I recently went straight to the Sealer Supply website and discovered that they sell both the 3ml and 5ml thick craft sheets. I needed a much larger, single-piece craft sheet, and they sell it by the foot. In fact, the 5ml sheet is fantastic. I've been using it every day for the past week and a half. Nothing is stuck, there are no holes, wrinkles, or sticking. I'm updating this because I noticed that some of the sheets are labeled as 5ml thick, which is a significant difference from the 3ml thick ones. I ordered a 36"x36" print, which is fantastic (it was under $30, including $9 shipping to Hawaii). So, I guess I've had a change of heart. Why should I pay twice as much for the Ranger when I can get a much larger 5ml sheet from Sealer Supply for the same price? I prefer to save money even if the size is the same.
Because it's tightly rolled, you'll need to flatten it or it'll curl all the time. br>Jen Shurkus suggests cutting it down into smaller pieces. This is an excellent suggestion. I'd forgotten I'd purchased it before, and the curl turned out to be a turnoff. br>However, I advise you to skip this step. To replace the Tonic/Tim Holtz glass mat, get the Replacement Mat. Because that one is white (and this one is beige), you can see the difference in color. That one also has a "sticky" side that adheres well to glass and other smooth surfaces. My biggest gripe with this is the lack of curling. br>However, if you do a lot of heat embossing, Mod Podge, or heated glue sticks, this is a useful pad that might be the right size for you. Simply try to flatten it (a Silpat knockoff oven baking pad, which is more likely to stay flat, is another option). br>Can you tell how much I despise curls? Just thought I'd mention it.
(In addition, one of them was accidentally cut- opps) Aside from cutting, it can be used for almost any craft. br>I use mine to mix paints and inks, then wipe it clean when I'm finished. Maintains the cleanliness of my table. Nothing adheres to it, so I use it for all of my gluing. Whatever glue drips, spills, or accidentally gets on the mat wipes right off! br>I simply will not work on anything unless I have my craft mat underneath me. It makes cleanup a breeze while also keeping my table spotless. br>This mat is a must-have for any crafter! In my craft room, it's one of the most useful items.
It came up in my search, and I'm sure it's because I didn't double-check. Instead of a Ranger box, it comes in a cardboard tube. It doesn't have the same gleam as the Ranger sheets. It's a complete snub. off. br>br>Edited to Add *I've tried reporting it to Amazon, but they keep telling me to contact him because he's a third party seller.
This is exactly what it says on the tin. It's simple to clean, so I'm more likely to experiment with messy new paper crafting techniques. I don't have to be concerned about the desktop being ruined, and cleanup is simple. I began by experimenting with a non-alcoholic beverage. I used to use a stick oven liner as a craft mat, but it only came in black, which made it difficult to see where I had ink smears or messy watercolor puddles, so I'd inadvertently place my card or artwork on it without realizing it. A few hours of work were squandered. This Ranger mat's light color allows you to see what's on it easily.
I'll admit that I was a little hesitant to pay such a high price for a small piece of plastic that claimed to do so much. "What?" I wondered when it arrived. This is nothing" Let me tell you, this flexible, thin marvel keeps my craft/art area much cleaner and neater than before. I used to go through vinyl tablecloths on a regular basis after they had been covered in paint and had dried. My craft matt is easy to clean even after paint has dried, glue has dried, and nothing has stuck to it. It also has a high heat resistance. If you know someone who paints, stamps, cuts stencils, embosses, or uses iron-on transfers, or does any other type of art/crafting; This is a fantastic gift idea. It's light, it lays flat, it's thin, and it's re-usable. I was able to save my tabletop without having to reinvest in additional protective coverings because it was usable.
If you keep a pack of baby wipes on hand, especially if you're working with alcohol inks, your work surface will be spotless in no time. Because it's quite thin, I taped it to the edge of my table. I'm not sure if it's heat resistant because I don't use hot glue, which is the only thing that comes to mind as a product that could harm this craft sheet.
