The best ruler to have for precision cuts is this one. I worked in an industry in which we had to make these all the time. The groove allows you to rest your fingers all the way in the groove to protect them from getting cut while you're cutting (we also used it to put our Xacto knives in while we weren't using them so they could be found easily later). My 18" cut for many years was much larger and this 12" did smaller.
