How much are whole hides going to set you back? What are half hides?

Amazon isn't where I get my leather. You shouldn't be either. Rocky Mountain Leather Supply and Weaver Leather Supply are both good places to get it. Weaver will send you samples of the higher-quality product.

What is the stiffness of the leather? Is it similar to cardboard, paper, or fabric in any way?

I found it to be very workable and not stiff, but it was not a particularly good leather. The back was extremely hairy and not at all tight. I hope this has been of assistance.

Is this vegetable tanned or untanned?

Chrome tanning and vegetable tanning are used to make this leather. br>Vegetan leather is used for the raw material, which is then chrome tanned.

Is this leather tough enough to be used as an axe handle rather than strike protection?

It'd provide only rudimentary defense.

My leather for my project, which is to make a cover for an old hatchet I discovered in an antique store, arrived today. The leather is so lovely that it's almost impossible to cut into it. The thickness is ideal, and the deep red color is stunning. I was hoping for a brown color, and I got it. Most importantly, it comes from the back of the steer, ensuring that it can withstand rough handling and retain its lustrous sheen. I've got a few more leather projects in the works, but this will be my "go-to" project. a" vendor br>br>I would strongly advise everyone to use this product and supplier.

Leather that is extremely stiff. It must be oiled/conditioned before it can be used.

This was not a "HEAVY WEIGHT" cow hide; instead, it was thin and resembled soft shoe leather

It was not at all what I had hoped for or expected. It wouldn't buff out and couldn't be cut with a sharp knife. It became a shambles because it was too stringy. I threw it all away.

Die job is a shambles! I had no problems with this product! I was making knife scabbards with the rough side out — when I folded the leather, I noticed the dye side had discolored — started rubbing in it, and the die started coming off — so don't use this on anything with color showing — the die isn't a deep permanent die!
