If you plan on using this a lot, I'd recommend investing in a real pasta machine. In which case, the kitchen aid will go above and beyond to fulfill your request. Regardless, I use this professionally in my jewelry business and it works flawlessly.
I've never used an Amaco machine, but my current one is simple to operate. It has not caused me any problems. Do two layers if you can't get the clay as thick as you want.

It doesn't even deserve a star, but it wouldn't let me post until I did. This is the first time I've ever given a rating to any of the items I've purchased (and I've done a lot of shopping!). ) DON'T EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA! The gearing mechanism is a complete shambles. Get a pasta machine for $6 more and you won't have to struggle to turn it on and your clay won't have waves in it.
I'm going to have to return this one.
I had high hopes for this product, but it was all falling apart when I tried to feed the clay through; it stuck, tore, and simply wouldn't work. I took all of the necessary precautions, but I returned it because it was such a hassle.
I had it for only two months when it began to literally fall apart on me. Simply invest in a better one. I was dissatisfied with how cheaply it was made, especially since it wasn't the cheapest on the site; however, you get what you pay for. Get it if you don't use polymer clay on a regular basis. However, if you're looking for something different, look elsewhere.
This clay press, for the most part, helped me achieve a consistent thickness in my clay (although it occasionally leaves bubbles in the clay or major streaks/tearing). )br>br>The design of the crank handle could be improved simply by adding a pin to keep the handle from falling out all the time. br>br>I liked how this machine relieved hand fatigue until the hard plastic tightening nut that holds the machine to a table shattered in my hand, making me wonder if it was stored in an environment that wasn't climate controlled for a long time, allowing the plastic to weaken before being shipped to me—although I'll never know. br>br>I contacted the manufacturer (since Amazon's 30-day return period had passed), who advised me to contact the seller. When I tried to call the phone number listed on the company's contact page, I got a message that said, ". . . the company is unavailable. " Call again. " br>br>When I finally get through to someone, I'm hoping for excellent customer service from the seller. 🤞🏼.
To begin with, it does not include instructions. It's self-explanatory, but the handle isn't secured into the roller, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The table, for example, will literally fall off if you bump it or crank it the wrong way. Which strikes me as odd. The mount is also strange, as it doesn't seem to fit into the machine's mount slot. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this isn't it.
It makes it much easier to condition certain types of clay. As a result, you won't get any hand cramps. It's one of my favorite things to do because it makes making even and consistent sheets or items like straps a breeze. For the price, I believe it is a must-have tool for polymer clay sculpting.
The way the clamp worked had already turned me off. The machine should not be able to move once the clamp is as tight as it can get, regardless of how far into the hole the clamp is inserted, but it continued to wobble on the table. br>br>Then, no matter which number setting I used to wind the machine, it made a terrible scraping metal sound. For those who have never used a pasta machine, that is something that should never, ever happen to a brand new, unused product. br>br>The price point is the only redeeming quality. If you're looking for a long-term relationship, this is the place to be. br>br> Spend the extra cash on a Marcato or something if you're doing long-term polymer clay work.
