A number of refills are needed in order to make a few candles at a time, and a portable electric cooktop works well for the candlemaking process. I haven't chosen one yet, but I'll consider it for the future. About $20 was the price I paid on Amazon. It is only suitable for small candles (anything smaller than a coffee mug) due to its thin and short wick. Since the stickers are so large, I cut them into several pieces before attaching them to the Even so, it's a good starter kit since it has most of the essentials. 444 soy wax is the wax I purchased, and I'm using essential oil to scent it. The canister of the candy thermometer is so small that I have to hold it in my hand in order to use it, even though it's meant to regulate the temperature. In order to use the hemp wick spools with larger jar candles, I doubled them up and bought a thick gauge hemp wick spool (2 mm). To go along with it, I bought candle wick tabs of 5mm. Using two wicks, I make a superwick by twisting them together.
I am surprised at the size of this pot. A great marking can be found on it. By putting the wax pot in a sauce pan and putting a wooden spoon through the handle, I can use it as a double boiler so that it sits on the bottom of the sauce pan instead of just sitting on the bottom. If the wax pot is not fitted with the spoon, the pot will topple over if it is used as a double boiler. Wicks are good, but I've had to try them over and over again. The only length is the longest. The wick should be trimmed using wire cutters so that it does not fray.
To date, I have used this kit to make several candles. It's nice that the pot pours and the holders hold wicks. While the wicks aren't very good, there isn't anything wrong with them per se. Their flame is adequate for a half hour or so, but then the fuel burns too short and the flame is poor, and so they There does not appear to be a good wicking up of the wax. it would be better to use thicker, possibly slightly less tightly woven materials.
It says it doesn't get hot, but the opening is so narrow inside that if you reach in you're instantly burning your hands. You literally get what you pay for, spend five more dollars to get quality, not poor quality.
The candles that don't completely melt down should only be melted down with this. In my case, I only needed the basics, not anything fancy. I think this is the perfect solution for this.
It was very quick for me to receive the order. All of the items that were supposed to be included were included. My issue was that some of the wicks were broken in more than one place. I received 17 broken wicks. Those are only a few broken wicks you can see in the images.
In order to make new citronella candles, I redo the remaining unused candle wax, melted it all together and made new.
