When I first opened these, I got a whiff of a strong plastic odor. I hoped it was just the bag, so I measured it into a cup and then added it to my double boiler. The odor became stronger almost immediately. I added my oils and butters in the hopes of masking the odor. I should have known better because I was using some of the more expensive butters for this batch, which was meant to be gifts for friends. When this didn't seem to help with the strong plastic chemical odor, I doubled the amount of essential oils and divided the mixture into containers. The scent lingered after it had cooled down. I left the containers open for several days in the hopes that a good airing would cure the problem. This was not a success. Allowing for a longer curing period for a product that did not require curing seemed like a good idea to me. I've let these "cure" for over a month (obviously no one got them for Christmas), and they still smell like the world's most pungent plastic and are now trash, which is exactly what this beeswax is.
When the bag was opened, it gave off a sour, rancid odor. For the past two weeks, I've been receiving horrible plastic-scented beeswax from various Amazon sellers, so this rancid, sour odor is unfamiliar to me. The pellets melted almost instantly, but oh my goodness, that sour smell was even stronger once they were melted. Although the wax remained on top of the water, I noticed that some tiny black spots had settled to the bottom. Because impurities exist, I'm going to be cautious and not use this.
Despite the fact that I had no issues with the company's yellow wax pellets, this bag of white wax pellets had the same off-flavor. Other reviewers have described the scent as being "put-off-putting. " The scent of essential oils, shea butter, coconut oil, and almond oil that I mixed into this wax to make a homemade lotion were overpowered by the scent of this wax. I'm not going to buy anything else from you.
This isn't pure beeswax or completely natural, in my opinion. I believe there is a petrochemical present, but I'm not sure if it's in the wax or as an additive. It occurred to me that it might be the bag, but that seemed implausible because I've never had a bag smell like this before, and the scent is also on the wax. I recommend getting your beeswax from somewhere else.
When I first opened the bag, I noticed that this BeesWax was not unscented. The wax worked fine, but the odor was unbearable. I used more essential oil to cover up the smell, and my wax tarts had no scent at all. It's a good thing I only purchased the small bag. From now on, I'll only buy my favorite white beeswax pellets.
I spent hours looking at these, trying to figure out which beeswax was the best, but it appears that some people are sensitive to the scent. This is the one I chose to purchase. While some customers complained about a bad odor, my product was spotless. Beeswax is a natural product that does not go bad and does not stink. I'd return it regardless of how it smells. However, because I did not read the reviews before purchasing, I was not prepared for such a strong foul odor from this product, which smells like a burned cigarette filter. Like burnt plastic, it's a sickeningly sweet flavor. I can't believe that natural bees wax smells like this, like a burnt chemical. I believe there are two possibilities. 1) This could be industrialized bees wax that has been exposed to heavy pesticides and required a lot of filtering to remove; or 2) This wax has been scorched as a result of being refined at a high temperature. br>br>I had hoped that melting it down would get rid of the odor, but it didn't. This wax was used to finish the outside of the bowl of my meerschaum tobacco pipe, and while it looks fine, it has an unpleasant odor. I'm going to contact Amazon to see what options there are for returning items.
