Questions & Answers

Is it possible to adapt this to punch holes in paper for a 5? 5 x 8. 5 binder?

That's what I think. The first and third punches can slide 3 1/4" apart, and the middle punch can be removed.

Is it possible to use it on laminated sheets?

It really works!

What is the size of the gap between the edge and the hole?

The distance between the paper's edge and the center of the hole is exactly 1/2 inch. It measures 10/16th of an inch from the edge of the paper to the far edge of the hole. 6/16th of an inch is also the distance between the paper's edge and the first edge of the hole. I hope this information is useful.

When not in use, is it possible to lock the punch arm?

Yes, there is a silver piece of metal that resembles the end of a dog bone at one of the punch's corners. Push the punch arm down and up, and the metal will lock the punch arm in place for easy storage.

It takes some effort to get it to work properly
3/5

Do not punch anything important until the bugs in this punch have been worked out. Here are the issues I encountered: br>br> First, when I took it out of the box, the adjustable hole punchers were slightly misaligned for a standard 3-hole punch. a hole-punch I needed to get a screwdriver, loosen the screws, and then re-install them. They should be in line. br>br>Second, there is the silver-plated. Colored punchers are OILY, and the first hundred or so punches left large grease rings around all of my holes. I got some scrap paper and made a LOT of punches, and now there are no more oil rings or spots on my clothes. From here on out, I assume everything will be fine. Third, the metal slider for adjusting where the bottom of the paper should hit slides VERY easily. It has nice notches that show when you're lined up with one of the measurements, but they easily slide out of the notches. This might work if you're punching different sizes of paper all the time, but I always punch the same size. I opened the puncher and taped the metal slider in place inside the puncher, and it no longer moves. br>br>Just to let you know, the springs are a little stiff - Pushing down the puncher takes more effort than my previous hole punch, which was advertised as "easy" to punch. But I wouldn't call this a flaw; I'd call it "normal" effort, not light effort. br>br>The bottom line is that this isn't a punch you'll be able to use right out of the box. I'm happy with how well the punch works now that I've got it set up, and I plan to keep using it.

However, this is a lovely item
4/5

This hole punch has a nice design, but it's a little heavy, and you'll need to mark or use a marker to set the paper size on the silver sliding bar, or you'll always be lost when you go to set the paper size unless you know what the numbers mean. It could also be safer when adjusting the slider. The slider moves along a bumpy track and clicks, clicks, clicks as you pull it, but there is no locking mechanism, so it could be easy to dislodge it if the right circumstances occur. br>br>It also had an odor when it came out of the box, as well as some oil on it and the rings that made holes in my paper, which left oil on it. Despite it being a fantastic hole puncher, there is one thing we are wishing it could do better than this. While not very shiny in appearance, it could have something more robust when it has a sliding bar that can be easily broken open rather than just dropped into the hole. br>br>I haven't changed the hole punchers to a custom size yet, but it isn't easy.

NOT AT ALL HEAVY- The seller and duty do not guarantee the quality of their products
3/5

Because the guide that controls the page height does not stay in place well enough, the holes begin to miss their targets. The hole punches themselves move too freely, and if you try to tighten the screw on the back too much with a screw driver, it will strip out. To keep it in working order, you must adjust it with your fingers on a regular basis, and you will waste paper as the holes move. This thing finally broke after a few reams of paper. This purchase left me extremely dissatisfied, and the seller refused to give me a refund or a replacement. It is NOT a heavy item. duty. It's an easy-to-use device. This is a heavy-duty hole punch that is easy to break. Take your money and go somewhere else.

Wow, a hole punch capable of punching through more than five sheets of paper! This is an EXTREMELY POWERFUL creature
5/5

Sure, it's only $20, but if you're looking for something more durable, this is the way to go. In the past, I had always tolerated the light duty, flimsy, less expensive hole punches because I only used them for around-the-house tasks and not in a professional setting, so I had no idea what the difference was. I only tolerated the lighter duty hole punches, as I previously stated.

. Then, one day, I had a few hundred to two hundred page manuals to print, and the first five - My old, cheap hole punch broke after ten pages. When I began looking for a new one, I considered the number of pages I needed to punch, and then my sons informed me that they would need one frequently for their high school classes, which required them to mount multiple pages into binders. I came to the following conclusion: Perhaps it was time to invest in a more powerful hole punch. br>br>Of course, the price was a factor in my decision, as was the number of positive reviews. I was skeptical when I first heard that this punch could handle 30 sheets of 20 pound paper at once, but it piqued my interest enough to give it a try. Plus, having the centering guide to accommodate different paper sizes was a plus; one of my older punches' flaws was that it could only handle 8 1/2 x 11 paper. br>br>I could tell this was a heavy-duty punch as soon as I opened the package, and using it for the first time only confirmed my suspicions. I grabbed 25 sheets of paper right away, and it was gone in a flash. After that, I had my wife try it, and she breezed through 25 sheets with ease. br>br>In conclusion - I purchased this in mid-2015 and have been using it for over a year, punching thousands of holes in sheets of paper. It's still working as well as it did the day I bought it, and I'm confident it will for a long time. In the end, $20 for a hole punch may seem excessive, but considering the amount of time and headaches it saved me, it was well worth it. Years ago, I should've purchased it. br>br>If you only need to punch holes in 1 or 2 sheets, or even 5 sheets, this may be overkill. In that case, the less expensive punches will suffice. However, if you require heavier duty or a larger number of sheets at once, this is a viable option. If you punch holes all day, every day, this may not be the best option; you may need to spend more money. br>br>It was recommended to me by someone who has used it and purchased it - I appreciate you taking the time to read this!.
