Questions & Answers
You would need sliding callipers if you want to determine the thickness of sheet metal.
This is not a gauge I would recommend. My three gauges and the three I purchased are not only different from one another, but they measure nowhere near the accuracy or trustworthiness of my other two gauges that I have The more precise the measurement, the more accurate the measurement. My mistake was not returning this purchase as I was not given enough time to do so.
There is a plastic sheath, but I do not know if it is stranded wire, since I bought it for jewelry making.

I use it to measure jewellery wire. As far as accuracy is concerned, it does the job correctly.
This is "82". As a comparison, we weighed the solid 12 gauge THHN using the same caliper. In addition to the 12 ga THHN wire, I also sampled the 14 ga THHN wire. In the 12 ga slot, 12 ga wires fitted, but there was ample room for expansion. Wires of 14 ga can be inserted into slots of 16 ga. Avoid this item at all costs.
As I started writing a review, I expressed my disappointment with the gauge I received because it was wider than the gauge I needed and that I had thought I had purchased. As a result, I received a letter from the seller stating that a refund was going to be issued, which was quite nice of them even before they received the item back. My review has been removed! I came here to update it, but it has been removed! Who is signing off on these documents? My knowledge of a seller's ability to remove a review was limited. Despite searching for hours and hours, I have not been able to locate the document. After removing my 3-star review, I was going to give 5 stars for the customer support. However, my past 3-star rating has somehow disappeared and I'm having to decrease my score Asked to take down my review, I was asked by the seller in a letter to remove it as a condition of getting a refund. Customer service was quick to respond and positive, but reviews should never be removed for any reason. Once I press the submit button, if I find the review here, I will change it. Those in the US are advised to AWG wire gauge is required, not SWG wire gauge, which is used in other countries. Also, there are differences in sizing.
In addition to being well oiled and packaged, the Stainless Steel Wire Gauge has the meters and English standards stamped on both sides! It will need a good wiping down when received and the small round plastic cover makes it easy to identify Hence, it is used by sliding a wire through the holes with the respective slot out of the edge, which only allows gauged wires, or smaller, to exit, so that one keeps trying until they find the one that fits the wire as long as it is long enough. However, it allows you to size wire that you may not know the size of, and check if the wire is, in fact, the right size for a particular hole, etc. It appears to be fairly well made, and should last for quite some time without wearing out.
My suspicion is that the tool is accurate, although I can't verify it. However, the design is poor, the numbers are not centered properly on the hole, so it can be confusing to determine which measurement goes with which number. There are some irregularities in the cutaway holes, which makes it look cheaply made. There are some holes that are not cut very well.
A lot of things have been accomplished. The most important aspect of this useless tool is that it is inaccurate. Despite being extremely thin, the material has many features. My expectations were not that it would be built for a machine shop but I do expect it to perform as promised. Hence, this does not apply.
There are no accurate gauge holes in this piece of equipment the holes set for 14 g and 16 g aren't accurate the holes set for 18 and 20 g are accurate using wire purchased from RIO GRANDDE that measured accurately on other gauges in my class.
